What has made chiropractic the second most popular healthcare system in the world? Why do tens of millions of people visit their neighborhood Doctor of Chiropractic? And the numbers are growing!

It’s because Doctors of Chiropractic can locate and correct subluxations, small distortions in your spine and body structure that can cause tremendous health damage if not corrected.

Tired of being sick and tired? Welcome to the world of chiropractic ~ discovers how natural health can be.

 Chiropractic is simple

The chiropractic approach is simple – remove a distortion in your body that interferes with your proper function. This is called a subluxation. It is a distortion that blocks your energies and interferes with your internal communications.  Chiropractors use the chiropractic adjustment to remove or adjust your subluxations. That gets rid of interference to the communication between your inner healer, your nervous system and your body parts – so you may function closer to your potential. This is something everyone needs.

That is why chiropractic continues to grow in popularity.

Sciatica and leg pain

Your sciatic nerve is the longest and largest nerve in your body. When such a large nerve becomes inflamed the condition is called sciatica (pronounced si’ad-a’ka) and the pain can be intense! The pain may follow the path of your nerve – down the back of your legs and thighs, down to your ankle, foot and toes – but it can also radiate to your back with burning, pins and needles or tingling. Ugh!

Causes of sciatica can include an unhealthy spine with a protruded or ruptured disc which can irritate the sciatic nerve. Sciatica has been reported following accidents, injuries and childbirth. (1)  The medical approach to sciatica is usually to treat the symptoms with painkillers, muscle relaxers, traction and physical therapy. Relief may be obtained by injecting painkillers directly into the nerve roots! In extreme cases orthopedic surgery may be resorted to.
The chiropractic approach has been a blessing to sciatica and leg pain sufferers for over a hundred years (2-3) often saving them from surgery. (4-6)   All sciatica sufferers should see a doctor of chiropractic to ensure they have a body free from subluxations. A subluxation causes structural distortions, disc and nerve pressure and may stress the entire body and brain! Chiropractors correct or adjust subluxations to relieve stress on the structure, nerves, joints and discs.   If you do have sciatica, from whatever cause, a chiropractic adjustment is needed to remove pressure on your nerves, rebalance your spine and body structure, release stress from your discs and permit your body’s muscles, glands and tissues to function in a more balanced manner.  Every sciatica sufferer should visit their neighborhood doctor of chiropractic for a checkup. It could save them from needless drugs, injections and surgery.

Don’t avoid the sun

It looks like there’s a big “oops” coming from cancer researchers. Why oops? Because people who have been scared out of being in the sun are becoming deficient in vitamin D, one of the most powerful health promoting chemicals in existence. Vitamin D is linked to preventing 14 types of cancer, dementia and Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s disease, heart disease and type II diabetes.   According to The Independent, the organization Cancer Research UK may soon suggest that people should get some exposure to the midday sun. The body gets vitamin D from the sun when the skin reddens without getting burned, and this can usually be achieved within 15 to 30 minutes outdoors without sunscreen on a hot sunny day.  We’ve been saying all along: You need sunlight – especially children. Get a nice tan – it’ll keep you healthy and happy. (7)

Another reason to sunbathe

The recommended daily intake of vitamin D in the United States is 200 international units (IU) for people up to 50 years old, 400 IU for people 51 to 70 years old and 600 IU for people over 70 years old. Today there is a wide consensus among scientists that the relative daily intake of vitamin D should be increased to 2,000 to 4,000 IU for most adults. (8)

Flu vaccine batch causes seizures in children

Health reporter Mike Adams (July 31, 2010) points out that the upcoming flu vaccine has caused  oncern among US officials. The labels need to be changed because it appears to have caused a “higher than usual rate of seizures in children.” The odd thing is that no one was told what the “usual” rate of seizures in children is. We’ve been told these shots are safe. If they can cause seizures, what else can they cause? Why haven’t all these complications of vaccination been identified and reported?

“The labeling for one vaccine, CSL Limited’s Afluria, has undergone changes this season to inform health care providers about an increased incidence of fever and febrile seizure…. The FDA said it was asking CSL to conduct a study of its vaccine in children.”

Our comments: so the choice is between having a miserable kid for a few days or possible brain damage. We think kids can handle a few days of flu much easier than a lifetime of brain damage. And we know the MDs, pharmaceutical companies and the government run the other way when it comes to paying for this “side effect.” (9)

A safety tip that’s easy and free

The next time you come home for the night don’t put your car keys away – instead, keep them next to your bed. Believe it or not your keys are a security alarm system that requires no installation.

This is how it works: if you think someone is trying to get into your house or if you hear a suspicious noise just press the panic alarm on your car key. It will go off from most everywhere inside your house and will keep honking until you press the button again.

Odds are the burglar or rapist won’t stick around … after a few seconds all the neighbors will be looking out their windows to see who is out there and sure enough the criminal won’t want that.

Try yours to make sure it works before you rely on it. Remember to carry your keys while walking to your car in a parking lot. The alarm can work the same way. This is something that should really be shared with everyone. It could save a life or prevent a sex crime.

Researching chiropractic

Lots of people call their chiropractor if they have back, neck, sciatica, arm, leg, headache and other kinds of pain. But chiropractic care can do so much more! Here are a couple of examples of why babies and children need chiropractic care. (Don’t leave them home when you come in for your visit.)

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and chiropractic.

Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects 2.6% to 11.4% of children. More parents are looking for non-drug approaches to help their children. Can chiropractic help?

In this study four male children were evaluated before and after chiropractic care. All the children showed improvement in ADHD symptoms such as hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattentiveness, as well as behavioral, social or emotional difficulties, under chiropractic care. (10)

Colic, constipation and sleep problems. A two-week-old male baby had excessive crying, abdominal distension, constipation, gas and disrupted sleep. Vertebral subluxations were identified and chiropractic care was applied to reduce vertebral subluxations in the pelvis and lumbar and cervical spine. The child experienced a bowel movement immediately following the first adjustment. Continued care led to regular bowel movements, a decrease in crying and improved sleep. (11)

More reasons for breastfeeding

Moms return to pre-pregnancy weight faster. Breastfeeding women lose weight faster than those who do not. This is because producing milk and breastfeeding requires about 500 calories per day, the equivalent of jogging about five miles! Breastfeeding also stimulates contractions in the uterus that help it to shrink back to its normal, pre-pregnancy size faster.

 Words of Wisdom

Birthdays are good for you; the more you have, the longer you live.

A truly happy person is one who can enjoy the scenery on a detour.

Before you read another joke, read this:

The science of psycho-neuro-immunology explores the relationship between emotions and health. Guess what? Laughter is good for you. There are many research papers on the subject and here’s the results of one that was recently brought to our attention: if you laugh you’ll live longer. Adults who see humor in life are 35% more likely to live longer than those who don’t see humor in life. (12)

 Humor

  • Living on Earth is expensive, but it does include a free trip around the sun every year.
  • How long a minute is depends on what side of the bathroom door you’re on.
  • Happiness comes through doors that you didn’t even know you had left open.
  • Ever notice that the people who are late are often much jollier than the people who have to wait for them?
  • Most of us go to our grave with our music still inside of us.
  • If WalMart is lowering prices every day, how come nothing is free yet?
  • You may be only one person in the world, but you may also be the world to one person.
  • Some mistakes are too much fun to make only once.
  • Don’t cry because it’s over; smile because it happened.
  • We could learn a lot from crayons: some are sharp, some are pretty, some are dull, some have weird names, and all are different colors … but they all exist very nicely in the same box.

Chiropractic is growing in popularity

As more and more people embrace natural healthcare in their lives we see more and more people visiting chiropractors (as well as other natural healers), using natural childbirth, eating organic foods, finding drug-free alternatives and exercising. Increasing numbers of people are eschewing pills and drugs that merely mask or suppress symptoms (that turn up later in another form) and are seeking out true healing – the kind chiropractic offers.  So welcome to our chiropractic newsletter; we hope to introduce you to a healthier, safer, happier way of living.

Are you vacationing?

We hope so. Who doesn’t like to go on vacation? Summertime is the best time to go on vacation. So is the winter. So are the fall and spring. OK, any time is the best time to go on vacation. It’s always good to let go of day-to-day worries and cares and nurture ourselves.   Sages have said that we should spend a little time each day going on vacation. Every day we should do something that we especially love to do, something that’s deeply true to our purpose in life. Whether that’s making music, meditating, praying, exploring, learning, sharing heartfelt time with someone or another healthy diversion, it should be done every day. Why? So our lives will have balance.

So if you’re on vacation (or soon will be) remember to take that feeling home with you when you return to your “regular” life. Remember to keep a little place in your heart and mind where you’ll feel a release from stress and joy in nature, where you feel happiness and a little carefree. You just need to do a little – it’ll keep you warm on cold winter nights and keep you cool on hot summer evenings.  And thanks for letting us give you a little respite by caring for you and your family – letting the stress out and the healing in.

Shoulder, arm, hand problems and Chiropractic

Neuritis, bursitis, neuralgia, rheumatism, frozen shoulder, fibrositis, sprains, strains, “poor circulation” and rotator cuff problems are some of the terms used to describe shoulder, arm and hand conditions.   Don’t blame joint problems on “old age” – you have many other joints (and organs) that are just as old that have no problems.

Whenever there’s a problem always look for imbalances and interferences preventing the body from functioning and healing. When it comes to the shoulder, arm and hand the nerves that make up the brachial plexus should always be checked for interference caused by subluxations.  Subluxations are distortions in body structure. They can be caused by injuries such as falls, sports mishaps, car accidents, emotional stress, fatigue and sleeping in an awkward position. Even birth stress could cause subluxations that can affect the arms, shoulders and hands.

Which nerves?

Depending on which nerves are damaged there may be muscle weakness, neck pain or stiffness, shoulder, arm, wrist, hand or finger pain. Sometimes there’s numbness, sometimes there’s pain and numbness and sometimes there are odd sensations (“pins and needles”). (1-2)

Many other conditions

Because of the complicated way nerves interrelate, headache; migraine; facial pain; dizziness; limited, painful or stiff motion of the head and neck; throat conditions; thyroid and nasal problems; epilepsy and even lower back pain have been reported as a result of neck or brachial nerve plexus irritation. (3)

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome or CTS symptoms include tingling and numbness in the hand, fingers and wrist; pain so intense that it awakens you at night and similar symptoms in the upper arm, elbow, shoulder or neck. “Faulty enervation caused by spinal joint lesions is one of the main factors in the production of wrist swelling, carpal tunnel syndrome, [and] tennis elbow.” (4-5)

The Chiropractic Approach

Chiropractic’s success with shoulder, arm, wrist and hand problems is well documented, (6-10) even though chiropractic is really not a “treatment” for those problems.Your doctor of chiropractic is specially trained to locate and correct subluxations. Unless corrected, subluxations in your body can cause or contribute to many health conditions and prevent or interfere with the normal healing process. After your chiropractor has located your subluxations he or she will “adjust” or correct them. This will release structural and nerve pressure and help restore the healthy flow of nerve impulses between your brain and your body parts and help rebalance your system.

Breastfeeding: saving lives and $billions

According to a new study published in the journal Pediatrics nearly $13 billion in health care costs each year could be saved and nearly 1,000 infant deaths could be prevented if more mothers would breastfeed at least six months, beginning immediately after birth. Why? Because breast milk is nature’s perfect food. It supplies everything the baby needs for optimal brain and body development. Breast milk contains antibodies that protect infants from bacterial and viral infections. More importantly, breast milk contains things necessary for health that have not yet been discovered. Also breastfeeding benefits the child emotionally and helps neurological development. Formula simply does not give a child what he/she needs for optimal growth, development and health. Formula made from soymilk is especially damaging to infants and may cause developmental and sexual problems later in life. (11)

Very smart parents

The headline below (and excerpted article) is about parents in Marin County, CA, the “wealthiest and healthiest county in the state” where the parents are very well educated and large numbers of them choose not to inject their children with dangerous chemicals, thank you. The article is written with an obvious bias in favor of vaccination – most reporters are as in the dark about this issue as the general public (and MDs). Keep in mind that study after study shows that non-vaccinated children are far healthier than vaccinated children.  The pertussis (whooping cough) vaccine is considered the most dangerous vaccine – responsible for brain injury, allergies, asthma and death. Pertussis is, however, fairly mild in most children. It’s tragic when any child dies, yet those who die from pertussis are usually very ill to begin with and are under intensive suppressive medical care that often damages their immune system.

It is known that the pertussis vaccine kills children (often diagnosed as Crib Death). Pertussis-related deaths of children are often the result of the medical interventions meant to “save” them. Below is an excerpt of the article July 2010 New York Times article.

Vaccination Rate Lags As an Epidemic Spreads

A statewide whooping cough epidemic has not changed how Danielle Lawson of San Anselmo feels about vaccinating her 5 1/2-month-old daughter. Ms. Lawson has declined almost all of the standard vaccines recommended for infants, including DTaP, which protects against whooping cough.  “I haven’t categorically ruled them out,” she said. “But I just think at this point she’s too young, and her immune system is still developing. Nothing goes into my baby right now, except for breast milk, so I don’t feel comfortable injecting her with strange chemicals.”  …When Heather Chapman of Larkspur got notices from her children’s schools this spring about the whooping cough outbreak, she got her four children immunized.

Others remain unconvinced. Ms. Lawson now avoids taking her daughter to the pediatrician, taking her to see a chiropractor instead.

“My feeling is that the pediatrician’s office is full of sick kids,” she said, “and she’s not sick, so there’s really no point in going and exposing her to sick kids.”

A wise mother. See the article in its entirety at http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/11/us/11bcwhooping.html?_r=1&ref=us&pagewanted=all

Do statin drugs save lives?

Do you know anyone taking statin drugs (Lipitor®, etc.) to lower their cholesterol level?  A study reported In The Archives of Internal Medicine asked if taking those drugs actually saved lives. For this study they used people without a history of heart disease but who were still considered to be at high or intermediate risk for heart disease.

So what did they find? After reviewing the data from 65,229 people they found that there was no proof these drugs saved any lives. The conclusion from the study states: “This literature-based meta-analysis did not find evidence for the benefit of statin therapy on all-cause mortality in a high-risk primary prevention set-up.” (12) In addition, an article from the British Medical Journal links statin (low-cholesterol) drugs to cataracts, liver dysfunction, intense muscle pain (myopathy) and kidney failure. (13)

Another reason to get more sun (lose weight)

In the ongoing Framingham Heart Study scientists showed that those subjects with lower levels of vitamin D tended to have increased waist circumference and higher serum insulin levels – two major indications of dangerous visceral fat accumulation. Sunshine is your single best natural source of D (and sunscreen can block the healthy UV rays needed for vitamin D formation). (14)

Chiropractic research

Why does chiropractic help so many people in so many ways? Because it is not for conditions or diseases but for the whole body. When the body functions closer to optimum, self-healing is maximized. Chiropractors remove interference to body function by correcting subluxations so the body can function closer to its optimal potential.

Otitis media (ear infection). A nine-month-old boy with a history of recurring ear infections was presented by his mother for chiropractic care. The child had antibiotic therapy and the MDs were suggesting ear surgery and tubes.Chiropractic care was actually initiated during an episode of otitis media. Cranial adjusting and sinus work along with vertebral subluxation correction was utilized and within one week both ears were reported clear. No ear infections have been reported since and the child is no longer on antibiotics and will not have surgery. (15)

Autism. A 6-year-old boy was brought to the chiropractor’s office with reduced social interaction, altered behavioral patterns, language deficits and learning difficulties. He was diagnosed with autism by a neurologist. The child was fully vaccinated.

Chiropractic analysis determined the presence of vertebral subluxations in the child. Chiropractic adjustments along with dietary and supplementation recommendations were advised. Over the 16-week period improvements in learning abilities, social interactions, language skills and behavioral patterns were noted. (16)

Bipolar, seizure, sleep disorders and migraine headaches. A 23-year-old man was suffering from bipolar disorder, sleep disorder, seizures, migraine headaches, and neck and back pain following a head-first fall at age 17 while pole vaulting. Evidence of an upper cervical (neck) subluxation was found and corrected with chiropractic adjustments. All of the patient’s conditions had completely resolved by the seventh month of care and remained absent at the conclusion of care at 18 months. (17)

People who see chiropractors are healthier

It’s true. Numerous studies have confirmed what chiropractors and their patients have known for a long time: people who visit chiropractors for regular care are healthier – no matter how old or young.  For example, in one study the researchers concluded: “[Chiropractic] patients report significant positive changes in physical health, mental/emotional state, stress and life enjoyment…” (1)  While in another study it was found that: “Chiropractic is associated with significant benefits in physical and mental/emotional state and combined wellness.” (2)  In yet another study the authors found that: “Chiropractic users were less likely to be hospitalized, less likely to use a nursing home, and less likely to use prescription drugs, more likely to have better health, to exercise, to be mobile.” One of the more interesting things about this study was that it involved people over 75 years of age!!! (3)  There’s even more. An informal research poll we recently conducted in our office has revealed that not only are people who visit chiropractors healthier but they are also better looking, funnier, wittier and they sing better too!

Special report: Posture and chiropractic

Good posture is a comfortable, relaxed, balanced state that provides you with energy, poise and stability. When you have good posture your head is balanced over your hips, your chin is parallel to the floor and your pelvis is level. You walk with energy and lightness to your step. Good posture is essential for physical and mental health.

Poor posture, on the other hand, stresses your neck, back, hips, legs, knees and feet – even your brain! It can lead to chronic fatigue, pain, decreased lung capacity, headaches, eyestrain and brain stress. In time, poor posture can lead to loss of height, and spine, bone, joint and disc degeneration – your movements become stiff and halting, you look older and you age faster.

Computer stress

In a few short years computers have invaded our workplaces, homes and laps. The dream of the original computer pioneers of a computer in every home has become a reality – and so has computer stress: eye strain, wrist pain and the other discomforts that occur from long periods of computing. How can we avoid such stress?

To relieve eye stress, keep your eyes at least 18″-24″ from the screen and rest them periodically – look out into the distance or out a window. If you face a wall, place a mirror near your computer and focus on a distant object through it. Also breathe deeply because shallow breathing creates tension and fatigue. Remember to get up and walk around, stretch and relax.

Sleeping posture

Proper sleep posture can relieve stress on your brain, spinal cord and discs, enhance body healing and repair, restore lost energy and improve psychological health.  But if you awaken tired, achy, tense or irritable it may be because of poor sleep posture. For example, a “fetal” position, with your knees up and your head down reverses your low back and neck curves and increases stress. Stomach sleeping hurts your neck, mid back and hips (a pillow or towel under the hips will help straighten the spine if you continue stomach sleeping, which you shouldn’t).   The ideal sleeping posture is on your side, legs nearly straight, head level and supported by a soft pillow; lying on your back is second best.

What about mattresses?

In a comfortable bed you may move, in your sleep, 20 to 30 times a night. But on a hard bed you may move up to 100 times a night! A too hard mattress that doesn’t “give” in the hip and shoulder area will resist, rather than conform to, your shape. That can cause spine, shoulder and hip discomfort and pain just like a too soft or a lumpy mattress.

Return to good posture

As your doctor of chiropractic relieves stress on your spine, nerves and muscles, you’ll discover increased balance, coordination and energy. That’s one reason why professional athletes, who are exquisitely sensitive to their balance and poise, use chiropractic care to maximize their performance.

Did you know? Don’t talk to the police

I don’t expect you to have police confrontations (who does?) but this talk, entitled “Don’t Talk to the Police” by Professor James Duane is incredible. After he speaks a police officer is asked to comment. Those comments are amazing as well. Please send them to your friends, family members and associates. Forewarned is forearmed.

Why my practice has virtually no autism

by Mayer Eisenstein M.D. J.D. M.P.H., ‪http://homefirst.com/

Dr. Eisenstein’s years of practice records were researched and it was found that autism was practically non-existent in the 35,000 children he has had in his practice. Find out why. This video was shot during a recent presentation at the American Medical Autism Board’s Second Annual Conference on Autism Spectrum Disorders in Troy, Michigan in March 2010. Low cholesterol doesn’t protect against heart attacks

Don’t fall for the latest diet fad – eat traditional nutrient-dense foods and avoid low fat diets, statin drugs or scare tactics designed to make you feel guilty, weak and helpless. The facts have been known for over a generation: 75% of the people who have heart attacks have “normal” cholesterol.  Statin drugs are dangerous – you need cholesterol. Cholesterol is an antioxidant and fights inflammation. Low cholesterol levels have been linked to depression, cancer, infection, low testosterone and other conditions. (4)

Chiropractic Research

Constipation and neck pain in a six-year-old girl. A 6-year-old girl suffering from constipation, neck pain, gastrointestinal pain and vertebral subluxations was brought in for chiropractic care. The child’s subluxations were located and corrected. Mother and patient reported bowel movements improving from once every 4-5 days to every day along with resolution of gastrointestinal pain and neck pain. (5)

51-year-old woman with multiple sclerosis. This is the case of a 51-year-old female with multiple sclerosis and GERD-related symptoms that began chiropractic care for subluxation correction. Subluxations were found and corrected in the cervical, thoracic and pelvic regions. Dramatic improvement in symptoms related to multiple sclerosis was noted. (6)

Don’t give your baby the vitamin K shot

Hospitals like to administer a synthetic, fat-soluble vitamin K injection to all newborns that is 100 times the daily requirement! If a mother is not malnourished, however, there is no proof that there is a vitamin K deficiency.  The vitamin K shot includes carbolic acid (a poisonous substance distilled from coal tar), propylene glycol (used as an antifreeze and in hydraulic brake fluid), formaldehyde (a cancer-causing agent used to embalm bodies), mercury (the most poisonous naturally occurring element) and benzyl alcohol.

Large doses of vitamin K are linked to childhood cancers, leukemia, jaundice and other severe reactions, including death. Animal studies link vitamin K to liver damage, kidney damage and death. Additionally, synthetic vitamin K has never been studied to see if it causes cancer or impairment of fertility.  A Lancet study reports, “We conclude that healthy babies, contrary to current beliefs, are not likely to have a vitamin K deficiency … the administration of vitamin K is not supported by our findings….” (7)

Chiropractic education is for kids

Kids love to learn about how their bodies work. They are fascinated by their skeletons, how their bones fit together and how it all moves. They are also interested in learning about how messages travel through the body from the brain, over nerves and to the organs. We often notice how they love to play with, hold and marvel at model spines and other teaching aids.  We’re always happy to give a mini-lesson in chiropractic and health that your child(ren) will remember for a long time.  Isn’t it better to start them on a path of natural healthcare now? The first stop can be a visit when we’ve got a few minutes to chat. Who knows? You might have a future chiropractor in your family?

Chiropractic takes stress off your nerves

Are you stressed out? You’re not alone. Millions of people live lives of quiet desperation – trying to deal with stress and getting pounded down for it. There are many wonderful ways of releasing stress – exercise, play, meditation, massage, body work; it’s ok to take a vacation from your worries for a while – don’t worry, they’ll be waiting for you when you return.  Stress has been linked to many different physical and mental disorders and conditions. Removing or at least reducing stress should be a major goal of anyone who wishes to stay healthy and fight aging. Fortunately, one of the most powerful and effective ways to reduce stress is chiropractic care.

How does chiropractic release stress?

First please keep in mind that all stress is not all bad. Stressful situations can help us grow, learn and overcome obstacles. In fact getting married, having a child, going on a vacation, engaging in high performance sports, buying a home and many other exciting things are also periods of high stress. The technical term for good stress is eustress.  But of course there is the stress that harms us. It is called distress. Chiropractic deals with that kind of stress.  Chiropractic releases a very deep, destructive form of stress in your body called a subluxation. A subluxation is a distortion in your body structure that can stress your nerves, brain, muscles, bones, joints, discs, tendons, ligaments, connective tissue and internal organ systems (elimination, digestion, circulatory and others).  If you have a subluxation your balance is slightly off-center, your muscles may always be slightly contracted with tender (trigger) points; your ligaments, tendons and joints may feel tight, your energies will be depleted and you’ll feel fatigue and experience premature aging. You may feel exhausted all the time.

Subluxations are dangerous; they may undermine your energies, your body function, your ability to function at your best, to think clearly, to play sports optimally and to relax more deeply. Subluxations may stay in your body for years, even decades, unless they are located and corrected.

Cause and caused by stress

Subluxations cause stress and they paradoxically are caused by stress. A difficult birth, a fall in childhood, sitting for long periods, working in difficult positions, an accident or injury (physical stresses), a sudden shock, an emotional upset (mental stress), a poor diet or exposure to toxins (chemical stress) or a combination of stresses can all cause subluxations.

“I feel so relaxed.”  Doctors of Chiropractic specialize in locating and correcting (adjusting) subluxations. When deep subluxation stress is released patients may respond by saying, “I feel so relaxed” or “I feel like a weight has been taken off my shoulders.”  Its not unusual for patients to report that they feel lighter, are more energetic and sleep better as a result of chiropractic care.  In these stressful times we owe it to ourselves to make regular chiropractic checkups part of our healthcare regimen. Fight stress buildup with chiropractic care – and bring your family in with you.

Hundreds of $millions down the drain

Despite months of dire warnings that the “killer flu pandemic” was going to leave death and disease in its wake, this past flu season was one of the mildest on record. Some epidemic! Excuse me, some pandemic!  Millions in taxpayer dollars were wasted and there are calls for an investigation of the World Health Organization (WHO) that begat this “pandemic”. Over half of the 229 million doses of the useless, dangerous H1N1 vaccine the U.S. government bought must be discarded since they will soon pass their expiration date. (1)

Milk, the REAL, real thing

Its original, natural, truly organic version has kept humanity healthy and happy for hundreds of generations: raw milk from grass-fed cows. Grass-fed cows are healthier, happier and live longer than cows penned up in industrial feed lots. Properly handled in clean conditions, raw milk is healthy and tastes wonderful.    Grass-fed raw milk is full of disease-fighting vitamins and minerals, essential fatty acids, amino acids and good bacteria. When you pasteurize milk, the heat destroys all of the immune-fighting properties. That pasteurized, homogenized white liquid at the grocery store has been called “chalk water” by dairy farmers.  It’s interesting to note that when calves are fed pasteurized milk they die. Why give it to human children?   Grass-fed raw milk also contains one of the most important health-building ingredients usually lost in processed, cooked food: enzymes. Enzymes are inflammation fighters and immune builders. But they’re destroyed by pasteurization. Some enzymes include:

Amylase: Breaks down carbohydrates in food.

Catalase: An antioxidant that protects cells from damage.

Lactase: Promotes absorption of minerals necessary for good health.

Lipase: Breaks down fats and triglycerides.

Phosphatase: Helps your body absorb and use the calcium and phosphorous.

Lactoferrin: Defends against bacteria, viruses, fungi and parasites.

It’s the real thing, and more and more people are turning to it. It also tastes better. To find how to get real milk in your area go to: http://www.realmilk.com/where1.html

Did mercury pills cause Abe Lincoln’s fits of rage?

In the 19th century mercury-laced drugs were used for all kinds of conditions. Now some British scientists think that the pills Abraham Lincoln took for constipation may explain the “explosive and unexplained fits of rage” that he exhibited for a time.  Not many people know that when he lived in Illinois as a young man Lincoln, in addition to his humor and personal warmth, was known for his strength.  He was considered the best wrestler in the county. For such a person to exhibit rage could cause considerable damage. In fact the article states that:  “On one occasion, the soon-to-be president is alleged to have grabbed a fellow politician and shaken him ‘until his teeth chattered.’  Now, British scientists say they have identified the cause of this un-Lincolnesque behavior: exceptionally high levels of mercury in tablets he took for constipation. In addition, high levels of mercury in Lincoln could explain the nausea, insomnia and depression he suffered from as well. (2)

Chiropractic Research

Scoliosis, attention deficit disorder, migraines. This is the case of a 7-year-old girl born with right side facial paralysis (from a difficult birth), scoliosis, attention deficit disorder, difficulty concentrating, vomiting and light sensitivity from intense migraine headaches since the age of 2. Her parents brought her in for chiropractic care and subluxation correction was initiated. Along with improvement of her subjective complaints such as migraines, difficulty concentrating and light sensitivity, after just one month of care X-rays revealed a 62% improvement in scoliosis. (3)

Infertility and Chiropractic. This paper was a review of case studies of eleven female patients, ranging in age from 22 to 42, whose histories included one natural childbirth, two miscarriages, two failed in-vitro fertilizations and three failed artificial inseminations. After receiving chiropractic care, there were eleven successful pregnancies. As we know, many people go to chiropractors for one problem (back pain for example) and discover that subluxation correction can improve other problems. That’s why the chief concerns that these women presented to the chiropractic offices included other problems such as: low back pain (one), infertility (eight), dysmenorrhea (two), ulcerative colitis (two), ankle pain (one), and neck pain (one).  All the women became pregnant between one and 20 months after receiving chiropractic care. (4)

High fructose corn syrup (HFCS) linked to liver scarring

Beware your breakfast cereal – HCFS seems to be in nearly everything these days – loads of soft drinks, processed foods, ketchup, salad dressing, cereal, cookies, yogurts, candies, bread – just go through your kitchen and you’ll be amazed how many products contain this dangerous artificial chemical (always read labels when you shop.) Our advice – throw anything containing HFCS out.  In addition to being linked to obesity and containing dangerous levels of mercury (used in its production) a recent study reveals that HFCS causes scarring of the liver! Duke University Medical Center researchers state:  We found that increased consumption of high fructose corn syrup was associated with scarring in the liver, or fibrosis, among patients with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).

We recommend you liberate yourself and your family from this bizarre chemical concoction. Why is this product used? Because it’s cheap, not because it’s good for you. (5) Read the rest of the article at: http://healthfreedoms.org/2010/03/22/high-fructose-corn-syrup-linked-to-liver-scarring/

Words of Wisdom

Men stumble over the truth from time to time, but most pick themselves up and hurry off as if nothing happened. – Sir Winston Churchill

I still have two abiding passions. One is my model railway, the other – women. But, at the age of eighty-nine, I find I am getting just a little too old for model railways. – Pierre Monteux

Do not grow old, no matter how long you live. Never cease to stand like curious children before the Great Mystery into which we were born. – Albert Einstein

Antibiotics increase chances of ear infections returning

In this study, ear infections were found to recur more often if the child was originally treated with amoxicillin (an antibiotic). The researchers found that acute otitis media (middle ear infection) recurred in 63% (47/75) of children in the amoxicillin group compared to 43% (37/86) of the children in the placebo group. The authors write, “This is another argument for judicious use of antibiotics in children with acute otitis media.” (6)  This is another reason to bring your child in for chiropractic care especially if he/she has ear infections. Many clinical reports and studies have praised the drug-free, non-surgical chiropractic success with ear infections in children.  For example, in one study of 211 infants, examined 5 days after birth, who suffered from vomiting, hyperactivity and sleeplessness, chiropractic care frequently resulted in the immediate cessation of crying, muscular relaxation and sleepiness. The authors, who are medical doctors, wrote that an unhealthy spine “causes many clinical features from central motor impairment to lower resistance to infections – especially ear, nose and throat infections.” They assert that all newborns should have their spines checked by chiropractors as “the success of adjustment overshadows every other type of [care].” (7)
