Is this you?

Hmm, you certainly don’t see this when you look in a mirror. Well, like so much of life, it’s below the surface.

This is a dramatic illustration of the spark of electricity that jumps across a gap (synapse) between each of your nerve cells. Right now that is happening BILLIONS of times each second as you read these words (or do anything else).

Without that spark you couldn’t breathe, walk, talk, eat or think. None of your organs would work; without that spark you could not survive for even a nano-second.

You don’t really feel these sparks of life because they are very subtle. Nearly all the sensations and goings-on inside you occur without your awareness. After all, how could you perform day-to-day activities if you also had to consciously deal with billions of nerve interactions every second? You couldn’t.

What orchestrates all these nerve firings? Certainly not your conscious mind. We humans can barely walk and chew gum at the same time much less juggle millions and billions of interactions at the same time.

Fortunately we have a wisdom within us that controls, coordinates, orchestrates and directs all these amazing things so that we can walk and chew gum and even talk at the same time. While we do these things energy flows over our brain and outlying nerves and vivifies each and every organ, gland, muscle, tissue and cell to life.

The “conductor” of our body processes is referred to as our innate (inborn) intelligence. Our body wisdom uses the brain and nervous system to send billions upon billions of messages over billions of synapses (gaps) and directs our many body parts to do their job and respond to stress.

Your chiropractor’s role is to make sure there is no interference between your brain, nerves and body parts – so that your energies can flow without any blockages.

Chiropractors do this by locating and correcting subluxations – tiny distortions in your body that you may not even feel, yet can cause tremendous damage. Chiropractors spend years learning the art and science of locating and correcting subluxations. They also study the natural philosophy of life and health that guides chiropractic clinical practice and research.

Everyone needs to be checked and adjusted for subluxations. Even chiropractors go to chiropractors to be sure they are free of subluxations so they are functioning at their peak.

Unblock your energies so that your inner “conductor” (healer) can send its information throughout your body without interference. You’ll then be able to function at your best with lots of energy, high resistance to disease and the ability to handle life’s stresses and stay balanced (emotionally as well as physically).

Hepatitis B vaccination increases autism 300%

Researchers discovered that vaccinating boys with the hepatitis B vaccine that is given shortly after birth triples the chances that they will be diagnosed with autism compared to boys never vaccinated or vaccinated after the first month of life. (1)

More on aspartame

Aspartame (NutraSweet™, Equal™) is in thousands of food products, especially if they are labeled “diet,” “sugar free” or “low-cal.” Aspartame breaks down into toxic substances such as methanol (alcohol that blinds drinkers), formaldehyde (embalming fluid – cancerous) and formic acid (found in ant venom).

The FDA has received thousands of aspartame related reports complaining of seizures, migraine, headache, memory loss, vision problems, coma, cancer, brain tumors and death. Aspartame appears to worsen or mimic the symptoms of fibromyalgia, MS, lupus, ADD, diabetes, Alzheimer’s, chronic fatigue and depression. (2) Please avoid this dangerous chemical.

Did you know?

The numbers on baseball players’ uniforms were first decided on in accordance with the player’s position in the team’s batting order. That’s why Babe Ruth wore number 3, Lou Gehrig wore number 4, etc.

The importance of good posture

According to researchers reporting in the American Journal of Pain Management, “Posture affects and moderates every physiological function from breathing to hormonal production. Spinal pain, headache, mood, blood pressure, pulse, and lung capacity are also among the functions influenced by posture.”

“Posture especially influences respiration, oxygenation and sympathetic function. Ultimately, it appears that homeostasis and autonomic regulation are intimately connected with posture. It has been clinically observed that many symptoms, including pain, may be moderated or eliminated by improved posture.” (3)

We’d like to add however that good posture is much more than remembering to “sit up straight”, “don’t hunch”, “hold your head up” and other ways of holding ourselves. Most of our posture is unconscious and is the result of how we deal with our relationship with gravity, stress, our emotions, fatigue and whether we have subluxations or not.

Because of that it is important for children (as well as adults) to have a chiropractic checkup to ensure that they grow up in balance and alignment.

PSA screening test – “PSA era is over”

The prostate-specific antigen (PSA) test, a blood test doctors use to see if a man may have prostate cancer, has been controversial for a long time. In 1987 the New England Journal of Medicine published an article suggesting that rising PSA levels could be useful to detect and monitor prostate cancer. However in the October 2004 Journal of Urology the lead author of the 1987 study had a dramatic change of opinion. He and his fellow researchers found that the PSA test was discovering smaller tumors that were less likely to be deadly.

Now we know that PSA levels are more indicative of whether the prostate is enlarged than if it is cancerous and needs to be treated. Prostate cancer is something people often die with rather than die from. “The PSA era is over in the US,” said Dr. Stamey, professor of urology at Stanford University School of Medicine and lead author of the 1987 NEJM study. “Our study raises a very serious question of whether any man should even use the PSA test for prostate cancer screening any more.” (4)

Researching chiropractic

Concentration, reading, writing, communication skills and chiropractic. This is a wonderful study that reminds us that all children should receive chiropractic care.

In this study ten children who received chiropractic care for subluxation correction for one year were evaluated. The children received upper cervical, full spine and cranial adjustments.

By the time of the 5th adjustment, the parents reported signs of progress in awareness and attention behavior. The majority of the children improved their reading, writing and communication skills and related better to each other socially.

As they were more balanced structurally, neurologically and behaviorally, improvement of their schoolwork was remarked upon by their parents and teachers. By the 12th office visit their posture and visual coordination improved significantly. The doctor, parents, relatives and teachers corroborated these improvements. (5)

Tourette’s, tardive dyskinesia and chiropractic. A 45-year-old male with a history of fatigue, Tourette’s syndrome, tardive dyskinesia and CREST syndrome sought chiropractic care. CREST syndrome (also known as limited scleroderma) is a hardening of the skin that can sometimes affect the throat and digestive system. There is no known cure.

In addition the patient stuttered when he spoke and had an uncoordinated stagger as he walked, along with tremors in his arms and hands.

Over a 12-month period he received approximately 108 chiropractic adjustments, and was also given exercises, traction and heel lifts. After the first few months of care the patient’s wife reported improvements in his energy level and that the tremors were decreasing. After a year of care the patient was markedly improved. Follow-up X-rays showed improvements as well. (6)

This issue has a lot of valuable information that you may not see anywhere else. If you have any questions or comments, please write to us. Feel free to send this to your friends and relatives and if you’d like a hard (printed) copy, stop by the office.

It hurts me here – why do you adjust me there?

Doctor, “It hurts me here – why do you adjust me there?” That’s a question we hear in our office all the time. Patients have also asked:

“The pain is in my leg, why do you adjust my back?”

“The menstrual cramps aren’t in my neck, why are you adjusting me there?”

“How can doing something to my child’s spine affect her ear infection (fever, asthma, allergies or stomach ache)?”

A common misconception is that since chiropractors work on the spine and structural system they are thought of as doctors who “treat” musculoskeletal problems. (Musculoskeletal or neuromusculoskeletal refers to nerves, muscles and bones).

Well, yes, we chiropractors do work on your bones or structural system but that’s our “portal of entry” – the starting point from which our care affects the entire body.

Think of it this way. MD’s prescribe drugs you take by mouth or give injections into the skin. But does that mean MDs are mouth and skin doctors? We never hear medical patients asking, “How can taking something in my mouth that goes to my stomach affect my asthma? Aren’t they different parts of my body?”

Of course we know that drugs, even if taken by mouth, are the “portal of entry” to affect the entire body. Drugs enter your blood after you (usually) swallow them to change your entire body chemistry.

So in the same way the spine and structural system is your chiropractor’s “portal of entry” or starting point. Why?

Because it’s a very powerful area – it connects you to your … everything. All your body organs – lungs, bronchi, digestive system, heart, immune system organs, brain, eyes, ears, nose, throat; all your muscles, bones, discs, joints, ligaments – your entire you – are affected by the nerves coming out of your spine and structural system. For you to be healthy all of your body parts must work together in a coordinated manner. Your nerves carry messages from your brain to all your body parts so you function at 100%. Your nervous system helps organize your body so can live at your fullest potential.

Whether you’re regulating your blood pressure, catching a baseball, fighting a cold or the flu (experiencing a cleansing), patrolling your every nook and cranny for germs and cancer cells, keeping your blood chemistry in balance, thinking, reading a wonderful patient newsletter, or doing so many other things you need your nerves to be healthy.

Energy flows over your nerves. You need an uninterrupted nerve flow to function at 100%. And if you aren’t at 100% anything less is less than optimum is lack of health or dis-ease.

Chiropractors have discovered a serious distortion in your spine and structural system that partially blocks or alters the nerve flow through your body. This distortion is called a subluxation. No matter where they are we’ll seek them out and fix them. And no matter what condition you are suffering from you will function better without nerve pressure.

If you have subluxations in your body problems can arise anywhere. Why? Because your nerves interconnect in many complex ways. Therefore a pain or problem here may be related to a subluxation there. Life is complicated and things aren’t always what they seem. The goal of healing is to get to the cause of a person’s problems and correct it, rather than just treat symptoms. That is our goal in this office. No matter what health problems you or your children are suffering from our goal is to locate and correct their subluxations – no matter where they are.

Did you know?

Did you know that many conventional farmers and ranchers won’t even eat their own food? You know why? Because they know what’s in it!

Check out this awesome short video featuring Farmer Brad who explains what’s really going on in agriculture today: http://naturalnews.tv/v.asp?v=2B8905351E28D05F8B2A7A0FF65BBEF2

Childhood vaccinations and infant mortality

Death after vaccination has been acknowledged in the medical literature since the 1930s. The US government has officially recognized this and will pay $50,000 if a child dies after vaccination. So far $billions have been paid out. A recent paper in Human Experimental Toxicology by Neil Z. Miller and Gary S. Goldman revealed the following: “Nations that require more vaccine doses tend to have higher infant mortality rates.” (1)

This tragic side of vaccination is acknowledged but rarely studied. Government agencies and pharmaceutical companies simply do not do the necessary research.

Hopefully this eye-opening study will not be ignored and will point the way for badly needed research on the safety of the vaccines most children receive. Sadly, you and millions of other parents and concerned people will not know about this study because it won’t be mentioned on the evening news nor will it be in your local papers.

Note: Neil Miller’s website is at www.thinktwice.com.

Your home base

You have a “home base” in your body. We’re not talking baseball. This base is in you – the base of your spine.

It supports you; you couldn’t sit, stand, walk or run without it. The illustration to the left is of your base: your hips, your pubic bones and your sacrum (the middle part that holds your lower back). Where your sacrum and hips meet is known as the sacroiliac joint.

Your entire spine sits on your sacrum – your hips connect to your sacrum and your legs connect to your hips.

To keep your spine and body balanced you need balanced hips – or else everything above can be weak. You need healthy hips for a comfortable pregnancy, a healthy lower back, healthy discs, healthy sciatic and other nerves, balanced muscles, strong legs and healthy organs including the intestines, ovaries, testes, bladder, uterus, kidneys, adrenals and other pelvic organs.

That is why your Doctor of Chiropractic will check you for alignment from the top of your structural system to the bottom.

Researching chiropractic

Chiropractors release a serious stress (subluxations) from your body. This releases energy for healing, regeneration and growth. All people (especially children) need a body free of blockages and stress so they’ll have strong, happy and healthy lives. Below are some clinical cases illustrating the potential of the chiropractic adjustment to correct subluxations.

Night terrors and headaches. A female adolescent with recurring headaches and night terrors (parasomnia) began chiropractic care. The headaches and sleep disturbances were interfering with her school performance and academics, sports and her social life. Upon examination the chiropractor discovered that she had cervical (neck), thoracic (mid back) and lumbar (lower back) subluxations. With one month of care her postural abnormalities and associated vertebral (spinal) subluxations were corrected during which time there was a reduction in headaches and complete resolution of night terrors.

Sleep disturbances in children are common and often develop without explanation. To date there are few interventions that can help alleviate these problems. Vertebral subluxation should always be considered when a child is suffering from health issues. (3)

Brachioradial pruritis (BRP) is a condition characterized by non-stop itching on the top of the forearms (overlying the brachioradialis muscle). Scratching seems to make the itching worse. In this case a thirty-seven-year old female with a history of brachioradial pruritis began chiropractic care. In addition to the itching, she also had complaints of neck stiffness and vertigo (dizziness). Vertebral subluxations were identified using chiropractic analysis which included palpation, heat scanning and X-ray. After 2 ½ months of chiropractic care, the symptoms associated with BRP as well as her neck and dizziness had completely resolved. (4)

Breech baby turns. A 25-year-old woman who was 31 weeks pregnant sought chiropractic care in the hope that she would be able to avoid a cesarean section due to the fetus’ breech presentation, which was confirmed by her Ob/Gyn. The patient also had low back pain that intensified since her pregnancy. She was evaluated and found to have sacroiliac subluxations and tension on the uterine ligaments. She was adjusted twice to correct the subluxations and ligament tension. The baby shifted from the breech position after the first visit and after the second visit, the baby shifted to a normal vertex position. She was able to avoid a cesarean section and have an uncomplicated vaginal delivery. (5)

What does a chiropractor do?

Chiropractors do something no other primary healthcare provider does. Chiropractors are specially trained to locate distortions in your body that can interfere with your health. These distortions are commonly caused by misplaced spinal vertebrae (spinal bones) and are called subluxations. Subluxations are dangerous because they may impinge and interfere with your nerves that connect your brain and spinal cord to your muscles, bones, joints, ligaments, discs, glands and other internal organs. This can affect how your body functions. How can you tell if you have a subluxation? Some subluxations are associated with pain or malfunction. A person may say, “I have a pinched nerve” or “I have pain when I bend, move, breathe, walk, all the time,” etc. (and they hopefully know they need to see their chiropractor).

But many subluxations don’t cause pain— some subluxations may seem to cause no obvious symptoms. For example, let’s say you have a vertebra out of position causing nerve pressure that affects nerves going to the stomach. Your digestion may be impaired, your stomach may be “nervous,” you may have ulcers or other conditions but feel no back or spinal pain even though there is nerve pressure from a displaced spinal vertebra.

Over a hundred years of chiropractic clinical observation has shown the benefits of subluxation correction for conditions such as ear infections, asthma, allergies, cancer, heart disease, ADD/ADHD, autism, overall immunity, balance, brain function, concentration, IQ, headaches, backaches, vision, hearing, digestive problems, energy—the list is very long.

So what ‘conditions’ does a chiropractor ‘treat’?

Chiropractors don’t treat asthma, ear infections, allergies, cancer or heart disease – they care for people who have these conditions. Our goal is to permit your body to function better – not to ‘treat’ a symptom. DC means Doctor of Chiropractic but many people say it stands for “Doctor of Cause.”

A person with cancer needs a chiropractic adjustment so his/her body will function better. A person with the flu, cold, migraines, brain fog, depression, low energy, mental illness and any disease or condition certainly needs a body free from subluxations.

You are healthier when you are subluxation-free.

Everyone needs to have a spinal column, structural system and entire body free from subluxations. For some it may make the difference between a life of high energy, vitality and good health and a life of fatigue, low energy and disease.

Do you have any questions about the value of chiropractic for you or your family or friends? Please feel free to write or call us.

Sex and health

It isn’t every day we’re told something we like is good for us but a research study reveals that an active sex life may protect a man’s health. 918 men in Wales, ages 45-59, were followed for 10 years and a statistical analysis of the men who died versus those who did not revealed something quite interesting. The men with the highest frequency of orgasm had half the death rate compared to the men with the lowest frequency. The men in the high frequency group had sex at least twice a week while those in the lowest frequency had sex less than once a month. (1)

What about women, you ask? This may be a shock to you but studies have revealed that women are different from men. Whereas the quantity of sex was important to longevity to men, with women the quality mattered. The enjoyment of sex was what made the difference—those with the most enjoyment lived longer. (2)

Pet vaccines

All people (especially children) need bodies free of blockages and stress so they’ll live strong, happy and healthy lives. Below are some examples of what happens when chiropractors correct subluxations.

Birth-induced facial asymmetry

A four-day-old boy had facial asymmetry (distortion of the face) from a difficult birth. He also suffered from constipation, excess saliva and intestinal gas. Upon examination his chiropractor located vertebral and cranial subluxations.

Chiropractic care was implemented to reduce and eliminate the child’s subluxations. This was followed by a dramatic improvement in the child’s facial asymmetry, constipation and intestinal gas. (3)

Fibromyalgia

A 36-year-old woman with fibromyalgia-related symptoms presented for chiropractic care after she had been injured in a motor vehicle accident three days prior.

A chiropractic examination located vertebral subluxations. The patient began chiropractic care for subluxation correction and over a 12-week period a dramatic improvement in fibromyalgia symptoms followed. (4)

Parkinson’s Disease and Chiropractic

A 67-year-old woman with symptoms of Parkinson’s disease that included weakness, tremors, scoliosis and rigidity presented to a private chiropractic practice.

Examination revealed an atlas (upper neck) subluxation. Over a period of 6 months, the patient was seen 19 times and received 12 adjustments to her atlas. In addition to improvements in her X-ray findings and spinal muscle balance she reported improvements in Parkinson’s symptoms of weakness, tremors, rigidity and overall mobility.
Keep cell phones away from your face and head

Researchers in Israel found that people who used cell phones heavily experienced a 58% increase in “parotid tumors”—a cancer of the saliva gland near the ear.(6) Another study last year out of Sweden concluded that cell phone users are ten times more likely to develop cancers of the ear and brain. (7)

Because their heads are smaller, cell phones are particularly dangerous for children. The radiation from the phone can cover their entire skull (and brain).

Our advice? Use a headset that keeps your cell phone away from your body.

Pass on the corn syrup

Almost half of all Americans are either overweight or obese, with the numbers in each category growing by 70% and 12%, respectively, during the decade prior to 2003.(8) Is it because of the 73 pounds of HFCS (high fructose corn syrup) on average that Americans eat per year? The calories from high fructose corn syrup are unhealthier than those from natural sweeteners such as sugar. Research reveals that rats fed HFCS gained significantly more weight than those given table sugar, even when their overall caloric intake was the same. (9)

While the Surgeon General is raising alarms over the epidemic of obesity, the president is signing farm bills designed to keep the river of cheap corn flowing, guaranteeing that the cheapest calories in the supermarket will continue to be the unhealthiest. And HFCS may be tainted with mercury—which is toxic to the brain.

Humor

A little boy opened the big family Bible. He was fascinated as he fingered through the old pages. Suddenly, something fell out of the Bible. He picked up the object and looked at it. What he saw was an old leaf that had been pressed in between the pages.

“Mama, look what I found,” the boy called out.

“What have you got there, dear?”

With astonishment in the young boy’s voice, he answered, “I think it’s Adam’s underwear!”

A little girl had just finished her first week of school. “I’m just wasting my time,” she said to her mother. “I can’t read, I can’t write, and they won’t let me talk!”

A little girl was watching her parents dress for a party. When she saw her dad donning his tuxedo, she warned, “Daddy, you shouldn’t wear that suit.”

“And why not, darling?”

“You know that it always gives you a headache the next morning.”

While walking along the sidewalk in front of his church, our minister heard the intoning of a prayer that nearly made his collar wilt. Apparently, his 5-year-old son and his playmates had found a dead robin. Feeling that proper burial should be performed, they had secured a small box and cotton batting, then dug a hole and made ready for the disposal of the deceased.

The minister’s son was chosen to say the appropriate prayers and with sonorous dignity intoned his version of what he thought his father always said: ”Glory be unto the Faaather, and unto the Sonnn, and into the hole he goooes.” (I want this line used at my funeral!)

While working for an organization that delivers lunches to elderly shut-ins, I used to take my 4-year-old daughter on my afternoon rounds. She was unfailingly intrigued by the various appliances of old age, particularly the canes, walkers and wheelchairs. One day I found her staring at a pair of false teeth soaking in a glass. As I braced myself for the inevitable barrage of questions, she merely turned and whispered, “’The tooth fairy will never believe this!”

It was the end of the day when I parked my police van in front of the station. As I gathered my equipment, my K-9 partner, Jake, was barking, and I saw a little boy staring in at me.

“Is that a dog you got back there?” he asked.

“It sure is,” I replied.

Puzzled, the boy looked at me and then towards the back of the van. Finally he said, “What’d he do?”

While taking a routine vandalism report at an elementary school, I was interrupted by a little girl about 6 years old. Looking up and down at my uniform, she asked, “Are you a cop?”

“Yes,” I answered and continued writing the report.

“My mother said if I ever needed help I should ask the police. Is that right?”

“Yes, that’s right,” I told her.

“Well, then,” she said as she extended her foot toward me, “would you please tie my shoe?”

A little boy got lost at the YMCA and found himself in the women’s locker room. When he was spotted, the room burst into shrieks, with ladies grabbing towels and running for cover. The little boy watched in amazement and then asked, “What’s the matter, haven’t you ever seen a little boy before?”

I was driving with my three young children one warm summer evening when a woman in the convertible ahead of us stood up and waved. She was stark naked! As I was reeling from the shock, I heard my 5-year-old shout from the back seat, “Mom, that lady isn’t wearing a seat belt!”

On the first day of school, a first-grader handed his teacher a note from his mother. The note read, ‘The opinions expressed by this child are not necessarily those of his parents.’

A woman was trying hard to get the ketchup out of the jar. During her struggle the phone rang so she asked her 4-year-old daughter to answer the phone. “Mommy can’t come to the phone to talk to you right now. She’s hitting the bottle.”

Chiropractic is the most popular natural healthcare profession

The art, science and philosophy of chiropractic was discovered and started developing a little over a century ago. It is now the most widely used natural health profession in the world.

Chiropractic continues to grow because it is effective, safe and gentle, and because it respects your body’s natural healing and recuperative powers.

This drug-free, surgery-free healthcare system offers you and your family a real choice.

Today millions of people visit their neighborhood doctor of chiropractic and millions more would, if they only knew.

Chiropractic releases deep stress within your body/mind so you’ll function better, permitting your natural healing ability, your inner healer, to perform optimally.

That’s why nearly every condition to which the flesh is heir has responded to chiropractic including ear infections, asthma, allergies, colic, bed-wetting, hearing problems, skin conditions, digestive and menstrual problems, infertility, spine and nerve pain, colds and flu, headache, sciatica, emotional and neurological conditions and many, many others.

People also visit their chiropractors for more energy, improved sports performance, better balance, clearer thinking, better resistance to disease and to help ensure drug-free lives for themselves and their families. We welcome you to our chiropractic family; you will discover for yourself why so many people say, “Chiropractic brings out the best in me.”

Chiropractic adjustments may enhance creativity and divergent thinking

Another reason to seek chiropractic care? Chiropractic is good for your brain. In fact, since chiropractic’s discovery the psychotherapeutic (mental health) benefits of chiropractic are well documented. For many years Doctors of Chiropractic founded and operated mental institutions and sanitaria where chiropractic care and natural healing were practiced. A higher cure rate was reported in the chiropractic institutions than that of the state mental hospitals (that used drugs, electric shock therapy and insulin shock therapy). (1)

For years patients have told their chiropractors that they felt “clearer” and more focused when they received chiropractic adjustments. There are clinical studies that have revealed that children concentrate better, have IQ improvement and have better behavior under chiropractic care. (2-3)

A relatively new clinical study has recently been published in the Chiropractic Journal of Australia.

In this study ten subjects between 10 and 62 years of age were adjusted for subluxations. They were tested before and after their adjustments. The majority of the subjects were found to have enhanced scores on the post-test showing a short-term improvement in creativity. It is not known if the improvements were due to less stress, increased blood to the brain or some other mechanism. (4)

Routine prostate cancer screenings are useless

There are now many studies showing that PSA screenings are unnecessary and unreliable. Six studies involving 387,000 men who were randomly assigned to either regular screenings or no screenings at all to test the efficacy of PSA screenings were recently reviewed. The researchers found that while PSA tests detected about 20 cancers for every 1,000 men screened, those detections had zero impact on survival rates. Further, those 20 in 1,000 men diagnosed with cancer end up facing incontinence and impotence when they’re treated for a disease that never would have hurt them so men typically die with rather than from prostate cancer. (5)

Did you know?

The most William Shakespeare earned for writing a play was eight pounds ($1,325 in today’s money). He never made more than 20 pounds a year ($3,313) from his writings. Luckily, he inherited real estate and his acting career paid well.

Antimicrobial soaps damage reproductive organs

Get rid of (most) liquid soaps in your home. A nonprofit environmental group has sued the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, claiming the agency failed to regulate toxic chemicals found in “antimicrobial” soap and other personal care products. The National Resources Defense Council alleges that two common ingredients, triclosan and triclocarban, can damage reproductive organs, sperm quality and the production of thyroid and sex hormones. According to the suit recent bio-monitoring results found “residues of triclosan in 75% of Americans over the age of 6.” For more information on this go to http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,598108,00.html

Vaccines and toxins cause autism and sudden infant death syndrome (SIDS)

David Denton Davis, MD, concludes some disease preventing immunizations are actually far more dangerous than anyone may have previously imagined due to adverse event under-reporting. Only 1% of adverse vaccine events are reported each year by MDs. This is a powerful video.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6LfipChRciY

340 deaths within 24 hours after vaccinations

The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) has a list of infants who died after vaccination in the US from one type of vaccine. The medical profession still claims this is all “coincidence.”

Why isn’t this information given to parents? Why isn’t it mentioned in the mainstream media? Why isn’t this reported in our evening news? In our local papers? Why aren’t parents told the truth about the dangers of childhood vaccinations? How many more children must die or live brain-injured lives (autism, ADD, ADHD, etc.) before parents are given all the information about the injections they are told their babies “must” receive.

Legally, there is no requirement for a child to be vaccinated. No parent can be fined or cited for not having their child vaccinated. Schools may refuse to let a child in (although there are legal exemptions). If people at least refused to vaccinate children until school age (5 or 6) when they are bigger, stronger and better able to handle the vaccine toxins there would be a lot less autism, crib death (SIDS) and other diseases.

The list of the 340 deaths can be found here:

http://www.medalerts.org/vaersdb/findfield.php?TABLE=ON&GROUP1=AGE&EVENTS=ON&VAX[]=HIBV&VAX[]=PNC&DIED=Yes&NUMDAYS[]=1&WhichAge=range&LOWAGE=0.1&HIGHAGE=0.7

Researching chiropractic

Chiropractic is not a “treatment” for specific diseases or conditions but a way of releasing (or removing) interference, blockages, stresses and imbalances (subluxations) from the body. This releases energy for healing, regeneration and growth. The only true healer is the wisdom of your body. Chiropractic’s goal is to let it flow through you without interference.

All people (especially children) need a body free of blockages and stress so they’ll have strong, happy and healthy lives. Below are some examples of what happens when chiropractors correct subluxations.

Scoliosis. A 10-year-old female presented to a private chiropractic practice with a chief complaint of migraine headache and a 35° thoracolumbar scoliosis curve.

Chiropractic adjustments were directed to the upper neck (upper cervical) area. The patient received six such adjustments over a period of 11 visits and 25 weeks (the patient did not receive an adjustment at every visit). A 10° reduction in her scoliosis curve was independently assessed. (6)

Otitis media (ear infection), swollen adenoids, nasal congestion, hearing loss and speech difficulties. A 4-year-old boy suffering from otitis media with effusion (middle ear infection), adenoid hypertrophy, nasal congestion, bilateral hearing loss, speech difficulties, developmental delay and behavioral concerns was brought in for chiropractic care. Spinal analysis revealed vertebral subluxations at the upper cervical (neck) and upper thoracic (mid-back) vertebral levels.

After 11 chiropractic adjustments including instrument and diversified techniques, a re-evaluation with an ENT physician revealed resolution of otitis media with effusion, no more adenoid swelling and nasal congestion, resolution of hearing loss and improvement of speech, development and behavior. In addition the boy had improved motion in the upper cervical and upper thoracic spine. (7)

New research reveals that staring at breasts increases heart health (who pays for this)?

We kid you not. At least there are no side effects (unless you consider your wife yelling at you a side effect). “I’m doing it for health reasons honey, do you think I really like looking at these women?” We thought better of including pictures with this article. Read it here:

Q: Why are many coin banks shaped like pigs?

A: Long ago, dishes and cookware in Europe were made of a dense orange clay called ‘pygg’. When people saved coins in jars made of this clay, the jars became known as ‘pygg banks.’ When an English potter misunderstood the word, he made a bank that resembled a pig. And it caught on.

Q: Did you ever wonder why dimes, quarters and half dollars have notches, while pennies and nickels do not?

A: The US Mint began putting notches on the edges of coins containing gold and silver to discourage holders from shaving off small quantities of the precious metals. Dimes, quarters and half dollars are notched because they used to contain silver. Pennies and nickels aren’t notched because the metals they contain are not valuable enough to shave.

Q: Why do men’s clothes have buttons on the right while women’s clothes have buttons on the left?

A: When buttons were invented, they were very expensive and worn primarily by the rich. Because wealthy women were dressed by maids, dressmakers put the buttons on the maid’s right! Since most people are right-handed, it is easier to push buttons on the right through holes on the left. And that’s where women’s buttons have remained since.

Q. Why do X’s at the end of a letter signify kisses?

A: In the Middle Ages, when many people were unable to read or write, documents were often signed using an X. Kissing the X represented an oath to fulfill obligations specified in the document. The X and the kiss eventually became synonymous.

Q: Why is shifting responsibility to someone else called ‘passing the buck’?

A: In card games, it was once customary to pass an item, called a buck, from player to player to indicate whose turn it was to deal. If a player did not wish to assume the responsibility, he would ‘pass the buck’ to the next player.

Q: Why do people clink their glasses before drinking a toast?

A: It used to be common for someone to try to kill an enemy by offering him a poisoned drink. To prove to a guest that a drink was safe, it became customary for a guest to pour a small amount of his drink into the glass of the host. Both men would drink it simultaneously. When a guest trusted his host, he would then just touch or clink the host’s glass with his own.

Q: Why are people in the public eye said to be ‘in the limelight’?

A: Invented in 1825, limelight was used in lighthouses and stage lighting by burning a cylinder of lime which produced a brilliant light. In the theatre, performers on stage ‘in the limelight’ were seen by the audience to be the center of attention.

Q: Why do ships and aircraft in trouble use ‘mayday’ as their call for help?

A: This comes from the French word m’aidez – meaning ‘help me’ – and is pronounced ‘mayday.’

Q: Why is someone who is feeling great ‘on cloud nine’?

A: Types of clouds are numbered according to the altitudes they attain, with nine being the highest cloud. If someone is said to be on cloud nine, that person is floating well above worldly cares.

Q: Why are zero scores in tennis called ‘love’?

A: In France, where tennis first became popular, a big, round zero on the scoreboard looked like an egg and was called ‘l’oeuf,’ which is French for ‘egg.’ When tennis was introduced in the US, Americans pronounced it ‘love.’

Q: In golf, where did the term ‘caddie’ come from?

A. When Mary, later Queen of Scots, went to France as a young girl (for education & survival), Louis, King of France, learned that she loved the Scot game ‘golf.’ So he had the first golf course outside of Scotland built for her enjoyment. To make sure she was properly chaperoned (and guarded) while she played, Louis hired cadets from a military school to accompany her. Mary liked this a lot and when she returned to Scotland (not a very good idea in the long run), she took the practice with her. In French, the word cadet is

pronounced ‘ca-day’ and the Scots changed it into ‘caddie.’

Stay warm – spring is coming.

Headaches and chiropractic

What Puts the Ache in Headache?

The ache in headache does not come from your brain—your brain cannot feel pain. During brain surgery a patient is often wide awake feeling nothing, even talking to the surgeons and nurses while his/her brain is being operated on (a local anesthetic numbs the scalp). So what puts the “ache” in headache? It’s the non-brain structures: blood vessels, membranes and cranial nerves in the brain and skull. When these structures are stretched, compressed, irritated, inflamed or infected headaches often result.

The Chiropractic Approach

Why have millions of headache sufferers turned to the natural, drug-free chiropractic approach to health? (1)

That’s because chiropractic has a unique healing approach—chiropractors are the only health professionals trained to analyze your body for a serious and often ignored condition that can damage your nerves, inflame your tissues, cause muscles to tighten and knot, weaken your body, cause fatigue and set the stage for sickness and disease. This condition is called the subluxation.

Just as you may have a cavity in your tooth and be unaware of the damage it’s causing, so a subluxation may be causing serious harm to your body—sometimes for years—without your knowledge.

The Chiropractic Checkup

If you have a subluxation we will give you a safe, gentle adjustment to correct the subluxation, thus removing nerve pressure and structural distortions.

Why Does Chiropractic Work So Well? One study of 6,000 long-term headache sufferers (two to 25 years) revealed that neck injury (whiplash, falls) was the most important factor in the cause of the headache and should be suspected in every nonspecific case of headache. (2)

Subluxation correction has powerful effects. In a randomized controlled trial performed at the University of Odense, Denmark, those under chiropractic care decreased their use of painkillers by 36% and the number of headache hours per day decreased by 69%. (3)

Headaches affect children too. For example, a 10-year-old girl with chronic, severe migraine (6 times a week for the past 3 years) was unable to go to school due to the severity of her condition. Neurologists could not help her. A chiropractic examination revealed a subluxation in her upper neck. After her third adjustment she was off her pain medications and by the third week she was back in school, had started dance classes for the first time in 2 years, “and actually began to smile again. She was leading a normal and healthy life for a child her age by the end of the 5th visit.” (4)

Not A Headache Therapy

For over a hundred years headache and migraine sufferers have turned to chiropractic for help, and yet chiropractic is not a headache therapy or treatment. Chiropractic’s role is not to treat any specific disease, but to care for the person who has the condition by ensuring that their entire body functions better by correcting their subluxations.

Anyone suffering from headaches (and any other condition) should make sure the nervous system and structural system is free from subluxations—for the health of their whole body, not just certain parts.

Chiropractic and pregnancy pain

A Norwegian study reveals that one-third of patients seek chiropractic care as first choice for pain during pregnancy.

The study interviewed the first 100 pregnant women presenting at a chiropractic clinic. The interview included reasons for visiting the clinic, average weeks of pain, where they were in pain and the number of chiropractic visits. The study found that 90% of the patients’ chief complaint was pelvic pain and for 30% of the patients chiropractic was their first choice for care. Those who had never had back pain before waited the shortest time before seeking care. The authors also found that the longer the patients waited to seek chiropractic care the more areas of pain they experienced and the more areas of the spine needed adjusting. (5)

A quarter of US children on drugs all the time

Advertising really does work

More than a quarter of U.S. kids and teens are taking a medication on a chronic basis, according to Medco Health Solutions Inc., the biggest U.S. pharmacy-benefit manager with around 65 million members. Nearly 7% are on two or more such drugs, based on the company’s database figures for 2009. (6)

PS. Aren’t you glad you know a safe, natural approach towards healthcare? Most people only know the drug approach.

Words of Wisdom

Your true place is a place of light. Even if you find yourself in the midst of darkness and sorrow, you must remember this is not your home.

Your essential self lies in an inseparable bond with the Source of Light. From there it extends a glimmer of itself below to illuminate the darkness.

– Tzvi Freeman

Hormone replacement therapy drugs Prempro® and Premarin® …

Pfizer’s hormone drugs Prempro® and the related Premarin® and Provera® cause a 26% increase in breast cancer, 41% increase in strokes, 29% increase in heart attacks, 22% increase in cardiovascular disease and a 100% increase of blood clots. As if that weren’t enough it’s also been linked to deafness, urinary incontinence, cataracts, gout, joint degeneration, asthma, lupus, scleroderma, dementia, Alzheimer’s disease and lung, ovarian, breast, endometrial, gall bladder and melanoma cancers.

The cancer rate in the U.S. and Canada fell when women quit hormone therapy in 2002 (as did the U.S. heart attack rate in women). But doctors are still recommending these drugs.

Interviews with Andrew Wakefield, M.D.

Dr. Wakefield is the British gastroenterologist who was viciously attacked for reporting that parents told him their children developed autism after vaccination. Below are an audio interview and a video interview of his side of the story. After you watch and listen, you decide.

Kids get measles from the measles vaccine!

This is coming from the MMWR which is the U.S. government’s own publication. We’ve always known that vaccinated kids can contract measles. There are numerous reports in the medical journals of epidemics in fully vaccinated populations. Here is just one from Illinois in which 17 high school students who were fully vaccinated came down with measles even though 99% of the high school population was vaccinated with the MMR (measles, mumps, rubella) vaccine. (7)

Did you know?

Dr. Seuss’ first book, And to think that I saw it on Mulberry Street, was rejected 27 times before he stepped into an office elevator and bumped into an old friend who happened to be working at a publishing house.

Dr. Seuss wrote Green Eggs and Ham after being challenged by Bennett Cerf (his editor) to produce a book using fewer than fifty different words.

Researching Chiropractic

Depression, asthma, high stress … and chiropractic. A 49-year-old woman with a history of depression, asthma, high stress, mood and gastrointestinal changes began chiropractic care.

She was checked and corrected for vertebral subluxations during a 7-month period. During that period she was re-evaluated and exhibited a considerable improvement in her physical, emotional and social well-being.

The researchers employed a Self-Rated Health/Wellness (SRHW) survey that was taken prior to care and at subsequent progress visits that assessed her physical state, emotional/mental state, her stress levels, life enjoyment and her Overall Quality of Life. (8)

Low back pain and urinary urgency. A 24-year-old soldier was suffering from low back pain and urinary urgency (needing to urinate 12-15 times per day). Medication to relieve the problem was unsuccessful. Chiropractic adjustments were applied to sites of vertebral subluxation resulting in an amelioration of the patient’s complaints. (9)

Pervasive developmental disorder. A three-year-old boy, who was diagnosed with Pervasive Developmental Disorder by a pediatrician, had communication problems, apraxia and speech delay. The child received chiropractic care over the course of 5 months to his upper cervical (neck) and sacral regions. The outcomes were measured by re-assessments, parental evaluation and health care provider and teacher reports. The child began making friends, became more interactive and less defiant and was reported to be an overall happier child following the introduction of chiropractic care. (10)

Please keep your laptop off of your lap

A new study finds that using your laptop computer where it was designed to be used (in your lap) can lower your sperm count. Researchers took the temperature in the testes of men working on their laptops. In just 10-15 minutes, the temperature down there rose to levels high enough to damage sperm production. (11)

Do you have a non-vaccinated child? Please take this survey.

Studies published in medical journals reveal that non-vaccinated children are significantly healthier than vaccinated children. One such study on the health of non-vaccinated children is being conducted right now and you can be a part of it.

It is a short survey. So far over 700 parents have participated, but to have accurate results at least 2000 participants are needed. Please go to http://www.vaccineinjury.info/vaccinations-in-general/health-unvaccinated-children.html

It’ll only take a few minutes of your time at most and future generations will thank you.

Humor

What are grandparents?

(Taken from papers written by a class of 8-year-olds)

Grandparents are a lady and a man who have no little children of their own. They like other people’s.

A grandfather is a man, and a grandmother is a lady!

Grandparents don’t have to do anything except be there when we come to see them. They are so old they shouldn’t play hard or run. It is good if they drive us to the shops and give us money.

When they take us for walks, they slow down past things like pretty leaves and caterpillars.

They show us and talk to us about the colors of the flowers and also why we shouldn’t step on ‘cracks.’

They don’t say, ‘Hurry up.’

Usually grandmothers are fat but not too fat to tie your shoes.

They wear glasses and funny underwear.

They can take their teeth and gums out.

Grandparents don’t have to be smart.

They have to answer questions like ‘Why isn’t God married?’ and ‘How come dogs chase cats?’

When they read to us, they don’t skip. They don’t mind if we ask for the same story over again.

Everybody should try to have a grandmother, especially if you don’t have television because they are the only grownups who like to spend time with us.

They know we should have snack time before bedtime, and they say prayers with us and kiss us even when we’ve acted badly.

A 6-year-old was asked where his grandma lived. ”Oh,” he said, ”She lives at the airport, and when we want her, we just go get her. Then when we’re done having her visit, we take her back to the airport.”

Grandpa is the smartest man on earth! He teaches me good things, but I don’t get to see him enough to get as smart as him!

It’s funny when they bend over; you hear gas leaks, and they blame their dog.

Blood pressure and heart rate affected by your neck!

Chiropractors were right all along. Researchers at the University of Leeds, UK, have found a direct connection between neck muscles and a part of the brainstem – called the nucleus tractus solitarius (NTS) – which plays a crucial role in regulating heart rate and blood pressure. The finding could explain why blood pressure and heart rate sometimes change when people have been in accidents, especially when there’s a whiplash injury and the neck muscles are affected. There are many tiny muscles between the neck vertebrae (spinal bones) that can be affected in an injury. Additionally it has been hypothesized that hours spent hunched over a computer may raise blood pressure for similar reasons. (1)

It seems that researchers are still catching up to the insights of Doctors of Chiropractic who for over a hundred years have reported that the integrity of the spinal column can have a profound effect on a person’s health. The University of Leeds research is a step in the right direction but what will they do with this information to help their patients? Will they continue to give people dangerous blood pressure medication or pacemakers and stents when what is really needed is chiropractic care? Will they decide to cut or anesthetize the neck muscles or perhaps apply electrical stimulation to affect blood pressure and heart rate?

Chiropractors have observed that more than blood pressure and heart rate can be affected: whiplash and other accidents (including sports injuries) have long been linked to many different health problems (of the eyes, ears, nose, throat, shoulders, hands and thyroid) and even the flow of blood and cerebral spinal fluid to the brain that results in personality changes. Long-term damage to the head and neck has also been correlated with Alzheimer’s, ALS (Lou Gehrig Disease), Parkinson’s disease and MS.

It is for these reasons that chiropractors have long advised that anyone who has ever been in an accident, no matter how long ago and no matter how slight or severe, needs a chiropractic checkup to see if they have any subluxations in their neck or other parts of their body. And Doctors of Chiropractic should be in every emergency room in every hospital in the world – it could make the difference between a life of health and a life of illness!

We’re full of germs

They float in the air we breathe, in our food and water, on our skin and in our bodies. We’re full of lots of little life forms we call by all kinds of names such as bacteria, ameba, paramecium, algae, protozoa and others. Some can live in the extreme frozen north, others can survive in boiling water – some need sunlight, some live in darkness. There are so many of them that scientists will probably never discover and catalog them all. A common term for these little creatures is germ. People hear the word germ and think of disease. But the fact is they almost never make us sick. Infection is the exception, not the rule. “Germs” normally live with us in harmony, and as long as our immune system is doing its job, even the meanest, scariest germs can’t bother us. Germs even help us stay healthy – they are important for our intestines and for nutrition – that’s why antibiotics can be so dangerous. Antibiotics kill bacteria and throw off our intestinal bacterial balance leading to fungal infections and other conditions.

In a recent study it was found that most people carry the meningococcal bacteria in their throat intermittently during their lives without ever developing the disease. Prior to the study, it was not known why some people in the population develop meningococcal meningitis and septicemia while others appear to be naturally immune to the bacteria. (2)

What does this have to do with chiropractic?

Chiropractic is holistic – it sees us as part of the whole. We are meant to live in this germ-filled world in health. Chiropractic care helps keep your immune system healthy by keeping your nervous system free of subluxation stress.

Want to ensure your immune system is functioning at its optimum? Bring in the family for a chiropractic checkup. It’s very important during cold and flu season. And if you do come down with a cold or the flu, a chiropractic adjustment can help you fight it off quicker.

Did you know…?

X-rays of the Mona Lisa show that there are three completely different versions of the same subject, also painted by Leonardo Da Vinci, under the final portrait.

Cholesterol and sex

STATINS – THE ANTI-VIAGRA

A terrible thing happened again last night – nothing. – Phyllis Diller

I’m at the age where food has taken the place of sex in my life. In fact, I’ve just had a mirror put over my kitchen table.

– Rodney Dangerfield

Impotence may engender a lot of jokes but it’s really not funny. A lot of impotence today is self-inflicted from low-cholesterol drugs. Many people today are sexual invalids and they’ve got statin (cholesterol-lowering) drugs such as Lipitor™, Zocor™, Crestor™, Simvastatin™ and others to blame for it. Statins are the most financially successful class of drugs on the market. Because of advertising and bad science millions of people are trying to lower their cholesterol thinking that that will prevent a heart attack. There’s no proof that this is so.

Low cholesterol doesn’t mean no heart problems

Research shows that nearly 75% of people who die of a heart attack have normal or low cholesterol. (3) What about lipids? Framingham Heart Study researchers themselves reported that “80 percent of heart attack patients had similar lipid levels [i.e., fat levels in the blood] to those who did not have heart attacks.” (4) Cholesterol is not dangerous; it’s essential for life. Without an abundant supply in our bodies we could not live. Cholesterol is the precursor for all the steroid hormones such as androgen, estrogen and progesterone that determine our sexuality and control reproduction. Cholesterol is the sole source for hormones that regulate blood sugar levels and mineral metabolism.

Because cholesterol is used in so many ways, artificially lowering it with statins is causing unexpected consequences such as impotence, loss of libido and erectile dysfunction.

Loss of libido

In one study 74 cases of impotence associated with statin drug use were reported. In 85% of these cases libido returned when men stopped taking the statin drug. However when six of the men started taking the drug again their impotence returned. (5) Another study reported on five men with coronary artery disease who developed impotence within one week of starting a statin drug. Within one week of stopping the drug their sexual function was restored. Two patients started back on the drug and impotence recurred. (6) In another study, men trying to lower their cholesterol were found to no longer have normal sexual performance and healthy sexual desire. (7)

Statin drugs don’t only mess up your sex life. Other reports have linked low cholesterol levels to increased risk of cancer and infections, severe deep-muscle pain, depression and increased death from all causes including accidents and suicide as well as other conditions.

What you really need

Please stop trying to lower your cholesterol folks! It’ll make you sick. Why are people still taking these drugs? Because fear sells! MDs and drug companies are scaring people into avoiding really healthy foods such as butter, cream, suet, lard, chicken fat, Béarnaise, whipped cream, soufflés and omelettes, full-bodied cheeses, juicy steaks and sausages, herring and other fats (coconut oil, olive oil) so more and more people are fat-deficient. (Please make sure your fats are from grass-fed, free range animals and wild caught fish if at all possible).

Fats are good for you? Yes, good fats are essential for physical and mental health, including sexual health. Low-fat diets are associated with depression, hormone imbalances, psychological problems, fatigue, osteoporosis, violence and suicide in addition to ED. (8) Will fat make you fat? Just the opposite. Eat loads of good fats, just avoid refined sugars and non-foods (such as soda, white bread and breakfast cereals). In one study researchers found: “Those eating the most cholesterol, saturated fat and the most calories, weighed the least and were the most physically active.” (9)

Avoid non-foods

People have been scared into using non-foods such as margarine and vegetable oil spreads and unhealthy foods such as corn, canola and other vegetable oils. Does that seem counterintuitive? Well, it’s not what so-called government nutrition experts tell us but the fact is that there was much, much less heart disease when Americans ate more animal fats.

Remember, most of the cholesterol in our body does not come from the foods we eat – it is manufactured in our liver. Why would our liver make such a dangerous drug? Because it’s not dangerous at all – it’s good for us. As Dwight Lundell, MD, cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon, says:

Physicians are no longer giving needed thought to what really causes heart disease or how to prevent it. Instead, they have become convinced that cholesterol-lowering drugs are the answer despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. (10)

For healthy hearts and blood vessels eat natural foods, organic, healthy fats and avoid refined foods, artificial sweeteners and all kinds of toxins. Go to www.westonaprice.org and www.ppnf.org for more information on this from real nutrition experts.

Swine flu epidemic in England

(even though 70% were vaccinated last year)

The U.S. Centers for Disease Control does not check on how well the flu vaccine works. It never asks the question, “Did the people who got vaccinated get sick?” or “Was there more or less flu in people that did not get the vaccine?” These data are readily collectible but the CDC doesn’t gather them. When collected in past epidemics these types of data have always shown that vaccines are not effective. (11)

Spinal fusion surgery – an expensive failure

“It’s amazing how much evidence there is that fusions don’t work, yet surgeons do them anyway,” said Sohail Mirza, MD, a spine surgeon… “The only one who isn’t benefitting from the equation is the patient.” For decades chiropractors have warned people against back surgery. It has an incredibly high failure fate. One of the worst things is that the surgery can result in more pain so the patient has to have more surgery – and is never pain free again. Please, if you know anyone who is contemplating spinal/disc surgery, have him/her call for an appointment. Studies show chiropractic is safer, much less costly and is a natural way to spinal health. (12)

Researching chiropractic

For over a century, chiropractic care has helped young and old maintain and regain health. Although erroneously thought of as a back or neck pain treatment, chiropractic is really a holistic natural healthcare system that can help all people, no matter what illness they have, since everyone needs a healthy spine, structural system and nervous system.

Constipation, neck pain, GI pain. A mother brought her 6-year-old daughter in for chiropractic care. The girl suffered from constipation, neck pain and gastrointestinal pain. After care, mother and patient reported bowel movements improving from once every 4-5 days to bowel movements every day along with resolution of gastrointestinal and neck pain. The chiropractor addressed the child’s subluxations, applying chiropractic adjustments. (13)

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and chiropractic. Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) affects as many as 11.4% of children. More parents are looking for non-drug approaches to help their children. Can chiropractic help? In one study, four male children were evaluated before and after chiropractic care. All the children showed improvement in ADHD symptoms (i.e., hyperactivity, impulsivity and inattentiveness, as well as behavioral, social or emotional difficulties) under chiropractic care. (14)

Words of wisdom

Are chiropractors back doctors?

Some people think chiropractors are back doctors or chiropractic is for back problems because chiropractors work on the spine. But that is incorrect.

It’s as incorrect as saying MDs are skin doctors because they give injections through the skin, cut your skin open (surgery) or apply creams and lotions to your skin. It’s also like saying MDs are mouth doctors because they give you pills to swallow. MDs give injections, drugs, ointments and perform surgery on the skin to affect other parts of the body.

In a similar manner chiropractors work on your structural system, spinal column and other areas to release stress on your nervous system and affect overall body health. Chiropractors are not “back” doctors even though people with back pain, neck pain, sciatica, whiplash and other spine problems often see chiropractors. In fact, the article below on children and chiropractic care is a perfect example of some of chiropractic’s potential.

Kids & chiropractic – perfect together

Over a century of success in helping children regain and retain their health has made chiropractic the healthcare of choice for millions of parents and their children throughout the world.

What is Chiropractic?

Chiropractic is a natural, non-invasive form of healthcare that respects the body’s innate ability to heal itself. Your chiropractor’s goal is to assist the body to regain optimal functioning by removing blockages and releasing stress so that balance and harmony among your body’s systems can be restored.

Chiropractors are specially trained to locate and release blockages commonly caused by tiny misalignments of the structural system. These blockages (called subluxations) create dis-ease or disharmony, which can lead to lowered resistance to disease, organ malfunction, poor posture, pain, and physical and emotional illness. (1)

The Earliest Years

Chiropractors have helped babies suffering from nearly every condition imaginable: colic, vomiting, sleeping problems, tonsillitis, vision and hearing problems and many, many others. (2-4)

Toddlerhood Through Childhood

Toddlerhood through childhood is a very physical time. Those first hesitant steps soon evolve into jumping and running, with falls and accidents accompanying each new skill. Even a small fall can cause damage with potential long-term consequences. (5) Ear infections, asthma and allergies have responded to chiropractic care. (6-7)

In addition there are reports of chiropractic care helping children suffering from autism. Some children were later re-diagnosed as normal after chiropractic care. (8-9)

Improved Academic Performance

Chiropractic care has been a blessing to many children (and their parents) who were experiencing learning problems. Both clinical reports and research validate chiropractic’s success with dyslexia, attention deficit disorder (ADD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), lack of energy or “low mental stamina”, anxiety, behavioral problems and other learning disabilities. Researchers as well as parents have reported improvements in both grades and IQ as a result of chiropractic care. (10 -11)

Chiropractic Checkups Are Vital

All children, especially if they are ill, need bodies free of blockages to the flow of energy and information in his/her nervous systems. It might make the difference between a life of strength and health and a life of weakness and illness.

Prayer and pregnancy

It was a finding that shocked researchers at Columbia University: women at an in-vitro fertilization clinic in Korea had a higher pregnancy rate when, unknown to the patients, total strangers were asked to pray for their success. Prayed-for women became pregnant twice as often as those who were not prayed for. The lead author of the report, Dr. Rogerio A. Lobo, Columbia’s chairman of obstetrics and gynecology, said he and his colleagues had thought long and hard about whether to publish their findings, since they seemed so improbable. In the end, the differing pregnancy rates between the two groups of women proved too significant to ignore. “It was not even something that was borderline significant,” Dr. Lobo said. “It was highly significant.” (12)

Something to avoid as much as possible

Medical care! More people die from medical mistakes, drug reactions, hospital infections and unnecessary surgery than die from heart disease or cancer. Most drugs do not cure anything but only suppress symptoms and drive disease deeper into the body. Suppressing acute symptoms can give temporary relief but can create chronic (permanent) disease.

Here are recent reports from The New England Journal of Medicine and the US government’s Office of the Inspector General to remind us of modern medicine’s dark side so we may avoid medical care if at all possible.

Medical Injuries Harm 18% of Hospital Patients

A six-year study of ten hospitals found that 18% (almost one in five) of hospital patients were injured by their care. The incidents ranged from minor injuries to life-threatening mistakes and fourteen deaths. North Carolina hospitals were chosen because the state is considered a leader in efforts to improve patient safety. Sadly, no improvements were noted after years of trying. Medicine is an inherently dangerous form of healthcare and should be avoided whenever possible. (13)

Medical Errors Kill 15,000 Elderly Patients a Month in US Hospitals

A report from the US government’s Office of Inspector General reveals that medical errors kill an estimated 15,000 Medicare patients a month and injure 134,000 per month. See the OIG report at: http://oig.hhs.gov/oei/reports/oei-06-09-00090.pdf (14)

Did you know?

Cashews are not sold in their shells because the oil that surrounds the shell is highly irritating to the skin, and peeling the nuts by hand can cause blisters.

Researching chiropractic

Chiropractors are often sought out if a person has back, neck, sciatica, arm, leg, headache and other kinds of pain. But chiropractic is not for conditions – chiropractic is for people! (By the way, pregnant women and babies especially need chiropractic care.)

Chiropractic Versus Disc Surgery Outcomes

Forty patients with lumbar (lower back) disc herniation and radiating pain were referred to neurosurgical spine surgeons. After three months of no response to painkillers, lifestyle modification, physiotherapy, massage and/or acupuncture they were referred to have either disc surgery (microdiskectomy) or chiropractic. Both groups showed significant improvements and at a 1-year follow-up, chiropractic care was as successful as surgery, at a fraction of the cost. In the US, 200,000 microdiscectomy procedures a year cost $25,000 each ($5 billion) plus additional hospital expenses. If at least 60% of these surgeries can be avoided with chiropractic care the savings would be at least $2.58 billion per year! (15)

Cystic Fibrosis And Chiropractic

An 8-year-old male presented for care with complaints of recurring infections, inability to sleep and inability to participate in age-appropriate sports. He had been diagnosed with cystic fibrosis at birth. The course of care involved chiropractic spinal adjustments, Network Spinal Analysis care and trigger point therapy. Improvements were observed in the patient’s resistance to recurrent infection, activity level, sleep ability and overall quality of life. (16)

Antibiotics have little impact on children’s ear infections

Acute otitis media (AOM) is the most common condition for which antibiotics are prescribed for US children. The researchers reviewed 135 studies in a meta-analysis.

Their findings should shock any pediatrician: “Antibiotics are modestly more effective than no treatment but cause adverse effects in 4% to 10% of children.” (17)

Most children recover in just a few days without antibiotics. While antibiotics may slightly improve recovery speed in some children they have many side effects including diarrhea, skin rashes and altered bacterial flora in the gut because antibiotics kill the “good” bacteria there. Antibiotics can create antibiotic resistant bacteria as well.

The frequent use of antibiotics for common ear infections raises risks that children will harbor drug resistant bacteria during subsequent illness … children whose previous ear infections were treated with antibiotics have a rate of amoxicillin-resistant bacteria that is three times higher during subsequent otitis media. (18)

It has been observed that children given antibiotics for ear infections get more ear infections! Who wants their child to have a weakened immune system?

In fact even the American Academy of Pediatrics and the American Academy of Family Physicians have recommended a wait-and-see approach (since 2004) for children with ear infections.

We have a better idea – how about chiropractic care during the “wait and see” period? Chiropractic’s natural, drug-free approach has helped many children recover from ear infections quickly and safely. (19)

Swine flu shot and increased miscarriage

Nearly 50% of all pregnant women were vaccinated with the H1N1 vaccine and according to a report from the Centers for Disease Control’s (CDC) Advisory Committee on Children’s Vaccines the rate of miscarriage among pregnant women during that period was 700% higher compared to previous years. The CDC denies the increase in miscarriages had anything to do with the flu shot. In response, Eileen Dannemann, Director of the National Coalition of Organized Women (NCOW) stated:

“This upcoming 2010/11 flu vaccine contains the same elements that are implicated in the killing of these fetuses, the H1N1 viral component and the neurotoxin mercury (thimerosal).”

Even worse, the number of vaccine-related “fetal demise” reports increased by 2,440% in 2009 compared to previous years.

In a related story NCOW presented data from two different sources demonstrating that the 2009/10 H1N1 vaccines contributed to 3,587 miscarriages and stillbirths. Read the report at http://thepopulist.net/?p=6630.

Special flu shot edition

It’s flu shot season. While we’re being urged by the pharmaceutical industry and government agencies to get flu shots to “protect” us, there are a lot of better reasons why we should not get a flu shot.

Flu shot and Alzheimer’s disease

We thought it appropriate to remind everyone that according to Hugh Fudenberg, MD, the world’s leading immunogeneticist and 13th most quoted biologist of our time (over 850 papers in peer reviewed journals), if an individual has had five consecutive flu shots their chance of getting Alzheimer’s disease is ten times higher than if they had one, two or no shots. (1) Why? Dr. Fudenberg reports that this is due to the mercury in flu shots (and many childhood and RhoGam shots); these toxins build up in the brain causing cognitive dysfunction. Is that why Alzheimer’s is expected to quadruple? (2) By the way, to disprove the Alzheimer’s/flu shots connection, some Toronto MDs went to nursing homes and asked people with Alzheimer’s if they remember getting a flu shot. Most said they didn’t remember getting one. Not surprising since Alzheimer’s victims may not remember the names of their spouse. Anyway, based on this “research” they concluded the flu shots didn’t cause Alzheimer’s (we are not making this up).

But the disclaimer in the paper’s abstract negated its value: “Because of the self-reported nature of the risk factor questionnaire we cannot exclude the possibility of recall bias.” (3)

Can you believe that the media reported this as “proof” the flu shot was safe? They didn’t mention the disclaimer. Maybe they had too many flu shots?

H1N1 vaccine damage

The H1N1 “swine flu” vaccine is in this year’s (2010-2011) flu vaccine. How safe is it? In Finland, France and Sweden, narcolepsy was reported from the flu shot and the Finnish government suspended its use. In Korea swine flu vaccine side effects included allergic reactions, fevers, headaches and 10 deaths. Other conditions related to the flu shot are Guillain-Barre syndrome (also known as French polio), idiopathic thrombocytopenia purpura (ITP – an autoimmune disorder blood clotting disorder), Bell’s palsy, facial paralysis as well as others. No one knows the exact mechanisms of how the flu shot injures. Some feel the reactions are caused by the toxic chemicals in the flu shot. Let’s look at some of them.

What’s in a flu shot?

In addition to billions of viri and toxins injected into pregnant women, babies and everyone else, the flu shot also contains powerful poisonous chemicals including:

Thimerosal – a preservative that is about half mercury. Mercury has been linked to autism, neurological and learning disorders, nerve and brain injury, organ failure and muscle weakness according to the US Food and Drug Administration.

Triton X-100 – a detergent and mercury derivative.

Polysorbate 80 – believed to cause cancer.

Formaldehyde – used to embalm dead bodies; labeled a carcinogen by the US Environmental Protection Agency.

The University of Alberta did a study in which one group of people got a flu shot and one group didn’t. When researchers adjusted for selection bias there was no health difference between the groups in terms of who got the flu and other illnesses. (4-5)

Another study presented at an American Thoracic Society conference in San Diego revealed that children who got the flu vaccine were “three times more likely to need hospital care” compared to those who didn’t. For children with asthma, the number was even higher. (6)

The flu shot has also been linked to vomiting, encephalitis and neurological disorders. (7)

Having the flu is good for you

Don’t cry. It all depends on your perspective. Look at it this way:

For thousands of years healers have viewed acute illnesses such as cold, flu and fever as powerful weapons your body uses for cleansing and healing. While these are uncomfortable experiences, they are not only how your body detoxifies you but they also have a powerful benefit. Studies report that the cold and flu may protect you from getting cancer:

Those with carcinomas of the stomach, colon, rectum, breast, and ovary… were interviewed. A history of common colds or influenza prior to the interview was found to be associated with a decreased cancer risk. (8) Subjects who reported a history of infectious diseases (e.g., colds, flu) showed a 30% reduction in risk [of brain tumor]. (9)

If you have a bad cold or the flu do not suppress your fever or other symptoms with drugs. Instead, respect what your body is telling you; work with your body to cleanse and detoxify your system. If you don’t, you can stay sick longer. As researchers have reported:

Taking aspirin or Tylenol™ for the flu could prolong your illness by up to 3½ days. (10)

Real protection

Certainly if a child or adult is expressing symptoms we must give comfort and support them, making sure their body is functioning within a healthy range of expression. People must remain hydrated, nourished, comforted and properly managed. Natural healthcare systems that respect symptom expression include chiropractic, homeopathy, naturopathy, craniosacral therapy, acupuncture, Chinese medicine, Indian (Ayurvedic) medicine and other “holistic” systems.

In our mad dash to protect people from expressing symptoms we should pause and consider that suppression of symptoms is not health.

Symptoms are the way the body heals and by suppressing disease symptoms we may cause deeper, more serious illness later on.

True health is when the body is able to express itself naturally.

Did you know?

The football huddle was conceived by a deaf quarterback at Gallaudet University who used sign language to communicate. Not wanting the opposition to see his signals, the team would bunch together to shield him.

Researching Chiropractic

Chiropractors are often sought out if a person has back, neck, sciatica, arm, leg, headache and other kinds of pain. But chiropractic is not for conditions. Chiropractic is for people! (By the way, pregnant women and babies especially need chiropractic care.)

Bedwetting and attention problems. An eleven-year-old boy with a history of nocturnal enuresis and attention problems was determined to have subluxations during chiropractic examination. Adjustments were applied at sites of vertebral subluxations at the C2, C6, T1, T5, T12, L3, L5 and pelvic segments. The patient and mother reported a significant decrease in episodes of bedwetting and an improvement in his attention problems. (11)

Dizziness (vertigo), neck pain and migraines. A twelve-year-old boy with a long history of routine, recurrent dizziness, chronic neck pain and migraines began chiropractic care. His symptoms had caused him to be absent from school more than half of the time the previous seven years.

He received chiropractic adjustments to the cervical (neck), mid-thoracic (mid back) vertebrae and the sacrum. After the first week of chiropractic care he reported a cessation of his headaches and neck ache. His vertigo attacks decreased in frequency and severity, then ceased. His school attendance improved dramatically. (12)

Breech baby. Three women presented to the author’s office specifically for reduction of in utero constraint and were found to have subluxations consistent with uterine constraint, including sacral subluxations. Each fetus successfully turned within 4 visits. Of the three, two went on to have normal vaginal deliveries while one developed other complications during delivery and required an emergency C-section. (13)

Alas, where has all our innocence gone?

While I sat in the reception area of my doctor’s office, a woman rolled an elderly man in a wheelchair into the room. As she went to the receptionist’s desk, the man sat there, alone and silent. Just as I was thinking I should make small talk with him, a little boy slipped off his mother’s lap and walked over to the wheelchair. Placing his hand on the man’s, he said, ‘I know how you feel. My mom makes me ride in the stroller too.’

As I was nursing my baby, my cousin’s six-year-old daughter, Krissy, came into the room. Never having seen anyone breastfeed before, she was intrigued and full of all kinds of questions about what I was doing. After mulling over my answers, she remarked, “My mom has some of those, but I don’t think she knows how to use them.”

Out bicycling one day with my eight-year-old granddaughter, Carolyn, I got a little wistful. “In ten years,” I said, “you’ll want to be with your friends and you won’t go walking, biking, and swimming with me like you do now.” Carolyn shrugged. “In ten years you’ll be too old to do all those things anyway.”

On the way back from a Cub Scout meeting, my grandson innocently said to my son, “Dad, I know babies come from mommies’ tummies, but how do they get there in the first place?” After my son hemmed and hawed awhile, my grandson finally spoke up in disgust, “You don’t have to make up something, Dad. It’s okay if you don’t know the answer.”

Just before I was deployed to Iraq, I sat my eight-year-old son down and broke the news to him. “I’m going to be away for a long time,” I told him. “I’m going to Iraq.” “Why?” he asked. “Don’t you know there’s a war going on over there?”

Paul Newman founded the Hole in the Wall Gang Camp for children stricken with cancer, AIDS, and blood diseases. One afternoon, he and his wife, Joanne Woodward, stopped by to have lunch with the kids. A counselor at a nearby table, suspecting the young patients wouldn’t know Newman was a famous movie star, explained, “That’s the man who made this camp possible. Maybe you’ve seen his picture on his salad dressing bottle?” Blank stares. “Well, you’ve probably seen his face on his lemonade carton.” An eight-year-old girl perked up. “How long was he missing?”

His wife’s graveside service was just barely finished, when there was a massive clap of thunder, followed by a tremendous bolt of lightning, accompanied by even more thunder rumbling in the distance. The little old man looked at the pastor and calmly said, “Well, she’s there.”

What is science?

Science is a discipline. It is a way of observing things and drawing conclusions. There are many ways of observing things, and hence there are many types of science. We speak of the “hard sciences” such as mathematics, engineering, chemistry, physics and mechanics and the “soft sciences” such as biology, psychology, pathology, physiology and other sciences that often deal with living creatures. For years scientists thought they could explain the person – mind, body and spirit – in hard scientific terms using mathematics, physics, chemistry and the like. It has yet to work. Allopathic (traditional or so-called “scientific”) medicine has largely failed – we have more chronic illness today than ever before and it’s getting worse. The living being is too complex, too unique and too unpredictable to apply the hard sciences to it. Instead, we have a way of looking at the body that is more respectful, that doesn’t consider it a mere mechanical machine. It is known as empirical science – we learn how this mysterious body works by studying its actions and reactions in sickness and in health. The results are superior.

Among those disciplines that use empirical science are traditional chiropractic, traditional homeopathy, traditional osteopathy, traditional Chinese medicine and other “holistic” systems. They see the person as a whole and work to bring the individual into balance and harmony so the greatest healer in the world – the natural wisdom of the body – can work at its greatest potential.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS) and Chiropractic

You won’t find the carpal tunnel on any map – it’s in your wrist. Your carpal (wrist) bones form a tunnel-like structure – the carpal tunnel – through which pass nine tendons and one nerve – the median nerve.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (CTS)

Carpal tunnel syndrome is called the occupational disease of the 21st century. Years ago telegraph operators, seamstresses, carpenters and meat cutters were the chief sufferers from this condition. Today it’s office workers, computer users, musicians and assembly line workers. It is also often found in pregnant women, women who use birth control pills or individuals with an underactive thyroid. If you have one or more of the following you may have it: tingling and numbness in the hand, fingers and wrist; swelling of the fingers; dry palms; blanching (whitening upon pressure) of the hand; or pain so intense that it awakens you at night. In some people CTS causes similar symptoms in the upper arm, elbow, shoulder or neck. (1)ons of people now suffer from CTS (2) and increasing numbers of them are seeking chiropractic care. The drug-free chiropractic approach of releasing nerve and structural stress has been a blessing to untold numbers of people afflicted with this condition.

Thoracic Outlet Syndrome

Thoracic outlet syndrome (TOS) is similar to CTS but is caused by irritation of the nerves that form the brachial plexus (in the upper back) as they exit the neck. TOS symptoms include pain, weakness and numbness or tingling in the arm.

The Chiropractic Approach

Since everyone who does repetitive tasks does not get CTS (or TOS) there appears to be an underlying weakness contributing to this condition. That is why anyone suffering from CTS should see a chiropractor to ensure that his/her body structure is properly aligned and free from pressure affecting his/her nerves. For over a hundred years clinicians, researchers and patients have reported relief of classic carpal tunnel symptoms and improvement in overall body function after chiropractic adjustments. (3-5) Subluxations (nerve irritation) have also been observed in many patients who have carpal tunnel or related hand and wrist problems. (6-7) For these reasons, anyone suffering from carpal tunnel syndrome should see a chiropractor to ensure that their body is free of nerve stress.

16 new deaths from Gardasil™

Please just say no when asked if your child should have this useless, dangerous vaccine. More and more deaths and injuries continue to be reported. For example, between May 2009 and September 2010 there were 3,589 adverse reactions reported from Merck’s Gardasil (HPV) vaccine including 213 people who became permanently disabled, 16 deaths (including four suicides) and 25 cases of Guillain-Barre Syndrome including:

A 19-year-old girl received Gardasil. A few weeks later she developed “headache, nausea, dizziness, chilling, tiredness, shortness of breath, chest pain, severe cramps,” experienced an acute cardiac arrhythmia and died.

A 13-year-old was vaccinated. Ten days later, she developed a fever. “The patient did not recover and was admitted to the hospital, developed dyspnoea, went into a coma…and expired. The cause of death was claimed to be ‘death due to viral fever.’” Her death occurred 23 days after receiving her first dose of Gardasil.

Thirteen days after vaccination, a ten-year-old girl developed “progressive loss of strength in lower and upper extremities…” and was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome that is considered to be immediately life-threatening.

Judicial Watch President Tom Fitton said, “These reports are troubling and show that the FDA and other public health authorities may be asleep at the switch… No one should require this vaccine for young children.” (8)

Diet soda, diabetes and stroke

Not only does diet soda NOT make you lose weight, but the sugar substitute chemicals in it put you at risk for developing some serious health conditions. For example, one study revealed that if you drink diet soda every day, you’re 67% more likely to develop diabetes. (9) Further, the Framingham Heart Study found that people who drink more than one diet soda a day have a 56% increased chance for developing metabolic syndrome (including coronary artery disease and stroke). (10)

Breastfeeding – new research

A new study in the Archives of Disease in Childhood reveals the benefits of exclusive breastfeeding for at least the first six months of life. Babies nourished this way experience fewer infections than those who are either breastfed for a shorter period of time, or fed formula in addition to breast milk. The lessened infections include respiratory and urinary infections, ear infections (otitis media), stomach upsets such as gastroenteritis, eye infection (conjunctivitis) and thrush. If a baby does get an infection it is less severe if the child was exclusively breastfed. Partial breastfeeding – mixing breast and bottle – did not achieve the same results. The authors concluded:

Mothers should be advised by health professionals that, in addition to all the other benefits, exclusive breastfeeding helps prevent infections in babies and lessens the frequency and severity of infectious episodes.

Professor Emmanouil Galanakis and his team say it is the composition of breast milk that explains their findings. Breast milk contains antibodies passed from the mother, as well as other immunological and nutritional factors, that help the baby fight off infections. Breastfeeding is the optimal and natural way to instill immunity in children, eliminating the need for chemical-laden vaccines that often cause more harm than good. (11)

Researching Chiropractic

Chiropractors are often sought out if a person has back, neck, sciatica, arm, leg, headache and other kinds of pain. But don’t limit chiropractic! Pregnant women especially need chiropractic care.

Scoliosis, dizziness, back pain, lack of vitality. A 15-year-old female with a history of scoliosis, vertigo, lumbar pain and lack of vitality began chiropractic care for subluxation correction. Measurements showed that she had a scoliosis Cobb angle of 44 degrees. Adjustments were limited to correcting subluxations in the upper cervical (neck) region (Atlas or C1) vertebra. After 5 months of care, the scoliosis Cobb angle was reduced to 32 degrees. (12)

Autism. A 6-year-old boy was diagnosed with autism by a neurologist after brain pathology was ruled out. He had been fully vaccinated. Vertebral subluxations were found in the child. The Autism Treatment Evaluation Checklist (ATEC) was used to determine the state of his condition. A schedule of chiropractic adjustments was implemented to reduce the subluxations that were found. Over a 16-week period of chiropractic adjustments, a reduction in vertebral subluxation patterns and an improved ATEC score were noted. The child’s learning abilities, social interactions, language skills and behavioral patterns also improved. (13)

Bedwetting. A nine-year-old boy with nocturnal enuresis (bedwetting) was presented for chiropractic care after unsuccessful medical approaches. Subluxations were located and corrected in the cervical and lumbo-sacral spine regions. By the seventh visit he had been dry for two weeks and continued to stay dry at a four-month follow-up. (14)

Words of Wisdom

Credit has done a thousand times more to enrich mankind than all the gold mines in the world. It has exalted labor, stimulated manufacture, and pushed commerce over every sea. – Daniel Webster

It is very wrong for people to feel deeply sad when they lose some money, yet when they waste the precious moments of their lives, they do not have the slightest feeling of repentance. – The Dalai Lama

The real measure of your wealth is how much you’d be worth if you lost all your money. – Source unknown

In nature there are neither rewards nor punishments; there are only consequences. – Robert B. Ingersoll

The CDC changes its tune

The CDC has for years claimed that the flu kills 36,000 Americans a year; the major media unquestioningly repeated this number even though researchers said it was false. Now the CDC says flu kills as few as 3,500 Americans in some years, with an average of 23,000 per year overall. Those numbers are still too high because the CDC loves to call all winter deaths “flu.” But they don’t do lab tests to confirm the diagnoses. This kind of dishonesty was revealed last year when the H1N1 flu was found to be bogus – so the CDC told health departments to just call all flu H1N1 so the numbers would look good. After all you can’t have a “deadly pandemic” if no one is dying from it. It makes the people who purchased a few $billion of vaccines look good if they can show they “saved” us. (15) According to a study in the British Medical Journal the flu is directly responsible for only a few hundred American deaths in most years with an average of 1,348 deaths in a really bad year. Is this a serious problem in a nation of over 300,000,000 people? (16)

Fortunately the American public can’t always be fooled since about 70% of us did not get a flu shot last year.

Vitamin D and the flu

Vitamin D was extremely effective at halting influenza infections in children – reducing relative infection risk by nearly two-thirds. The results are from a randomized, double blind, placebo-controlled study involving 334 children, half of whom were given 1200 IUs per day of vitamin D3. Vitamin D appears to be 800% more effective than vaccines at preventing influenza infections in children. Vitamin D also significantly reduced asthma in children. Rather than slathering toxic sunscreen on our kids and ourselves, and hiding under hats and other devices to prevent all of the sun’s rays from striking our bodies, doctors should tell their patients to get lots of sun – just don’t burn.

Too many people have vitamin D deficiency that has been linked to cancer, diabetes, kidney and liver disorders, bone disorders and, of course, influenza.
Summer is over

We’re sorry but we had nothing to do with it. Blame the earth traveling around the sun with that axis tilt of 23 degrees or so. Surely you remember that from the science classes. If you managed to stay awake in science class you know that it’s technically not the end of summer – yet. How to deal with the stress of seasons changing, sunlight fading and having to put up with Thanksgiving ads starting way too early? And what about those school backpacks? Simple, do what we do – get a chiropractic checkup and adjustment. It’s good for you.

You’ll feel better and it’ll get your body back in order after the summer of wild mountain climbing and crabgrass wrestling. Also, you need it.

Don’t wait until symptoms appear – by the time you have pain or other symptoms you might have had subluxations for weeks, months or even years. Get your chiropractic checkup now! Your body will thank you for it.

Professional football and chiropractic

Chiropractic has been “discovered” by professional athletes, Olympians, weekend warriors and everyone in between. Since it’s football season we thought you might find this interesting:

According to the Professional Football Chiropractic Society (PFCS), all 32 teams in the National Football League provide their players with chiropractic care so they can perform at their best and also to manage and prevent injuries and to speed recovery.

Super Bowl Champion New Orleans Saints wide receiver Marques Colston relied on Rob Lizana, DC for chiropractic care. Colston says: “I always see Dr. Rob for chiropractic care on game day to get my body balanced, flexible and ready for action. I see him several times a week for rehab and to recover faster from the last game.”

The Saints’ Reggie Bush has been receiving regular chiropractic care since high school. “I look at chiropractic care as important to keeping me healthy and at the top of my game.”

Saints wide receiver Lance Moore also praises chiropractic: “Not only did my chiropractor get me back on the field, but he helped me to stay on the field. My body just feels much better overall because of the care I’ve gotten.”

2010 NFL Hall Of Fame inductee Jerry Rice adds: “I did a lot of things to stay in the game, but regular visits to my chiropractor made all the difference.” (1)

Is chiropractic only for athletes?

Chiropractic care isn’t only for athletic champions and it’s not only for football. No matter what sport or athletic endeavor you participate in (even if it’s just pencil pushing) you need chiropractic care to release emotional as well as physical stress from your body. A lot of small stresses (micro-trauma) can disable you as much as one big stress such as a car accident or getting tackled by a 300-pound lineman (macro-trauma).

If day-to-day stresses are not released your body may develop small structural distortions that interfere with the function of your nervous system and overall health. These small distortions are known as subluxations (or the subluxation complex). Subluxations are often (but not always) painless, but they can undermine your health just as termites undermine your house. By the time the floor collapses, it’s a little late to call the exterminator.

In the same way people may live for years with health-destroying subluxations in their body, all the while thinking they are “OK.” Doctors of Chiropractic are specially trained to locate and correct (release) these subluxations. It’s best to get your body checked early, before problems cause pain and other symptoms. Remember, chiropractic is not only for big powerful athletes, it’s also for little kids too (and infants as well).

Chiropractic history

Where did chiropractic come from?

Actually the principles of chiropractic are ancient and spinal care can be found in nearly every culture across the globe. Why? Because it works so well. But in many places, as drugs and allopathic medicine politically came to dominate the healing arts, what would eventually be called chiropractic was lost and forgotten.

It was not until 1895 that Dr. D.D. Palmer – the discoverer of chiropractic and the first chiropractor – accidentally gave what was later called a “spinal adjustment” and corrected a man’s 17 years of deafness.

Since those early days chiropractic has grown and grown. It has become the second largest healthcare system in the United States and has spread throughout the world! From one man making a healing discovery in a room in Davenport, Iowa over a century ago, there are now nearly 100,000 chiropractors throughout the world. And more importantly, there are millions of men, women and children who owe their health and in many cases their lives to this remarkable drug-free, non-surgical natural healthcare system.

Don’t keep your chiropractor a secret from your friends and family. Too many people think drugs and surgery are the only healthcare options.

People are not sick because they have too many organs or not enough drugs. Chiropractic’s purpose is to remove interference and stress on your nervous and structural systems so you may function closer to your potential.

Where did your chiropractor come from?

I studied intensively with some wonderful teachers and have had some amazing experiences as a chiropractor. I’m more than the diplomas on my wall and I’ve got a unique story. Just ask me.

Gardasil™ vaccine may increase the risk of cervical cancer

Would you consent to giving your child a vaccine that caused an increased risk of cancer? That may be exactly what you are doing when you consent to Gardasil.

According to information Merck gave the FDA prior to approval, if a person has already been exposed to HPV 16 or 18 prior to injection, Gardasil increases the risk of precancerous lesions, or worse, by 44.6%.
The bizarre thing is people aren’t screened in advance and are not told of the danger they may be in if they are injected. Further, other HPV strains may be involved as well based on recent research.

Yet another study finds flu shots worthless

Since it’s flu shot season we thought we’d share some more information on this worthless, dangerous vaccine. Another study reports that the flu vaccine does not help those in high-risk groups – the ones we are told benefit the most from the flu shot.

Researchers found that the flu vaccine does not reduce risk of severe complications from the flu, in-hospital death or influenza or pneumonia admissions in elderly people.

Researchers also revealed that almost all flu vaccine research trials (48 out of 49) did not compare the incidence of flu in the vaccinated versus the non-vaccinated.

Rather, subjects who received flu shots in influenza vaccine trials were only tested to see if they had flu antigens. If they had a certain number, the vaccine maker claimed that the flu vaccine “worked” to prevent flu. That is a meaningless method of determining effectiveness since there is often no correlation between getting ill (clinical illness) and antibody levels. In other words, people with high antibody levels can become ill while people with low antibody levels may not. Resistance to disease is much more complicated than mere antibody levels. Simply stated, the flu shot is not proven to work at preventing the flu. (2)

Researching Chiropractic

Chiropractors are often sought out if a person has back, neck, sciatica, arm, leg, headache and other kinds of pain. But don’t limit chiropractic! Pregnant women especially need chiropractic care.

Breech baby. A 37-year-old woman 35 weeks pregnant with her third child presented in the office after discovering through ultrasound that the baby was in breech position. The patient stated she was looking for an alternative to having a cesarean section. After five adjustments, the fetus turned from a frank breech position to a vertex, head-down position. Pre- and post ultrasounds confirmed the transition of the fetus from a breech to a vertex position. (3)

Brain compression. An eleven-year-old girl had a one-month history of dizziness, fuzzy vision and ataxia (inability to walk without assistance).

An MRI revealed a brain problem in which parts of her brain (cerebellar tonsils) extended into the opening at the bottom of her skull causing compression of the pituitary gland. She was no longer able to attend school or function normally. Chiropractic examination and analysis indicated the presence of vertebral subluxation at the atlas and occiput (top of the neck and base of the skull).

Chiropractic adjustments were performed, primarily in the upper neck area to correct her atlas subluxation. The girl responded well to care with complete resolution of her symptoms. (4)

More reasons for breastfeeding

A study published in the journal Obstetrics and Gynecology in 2009 found that women who breastfed for a full 7 to 12 months, compared to women who never breastfed, were significantly less likely to develop diabetes or cardiovascular disease in their post-menopausal years. “Among postmenopausal women, increased duration of lactation was associated with a lower prevalence of hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, and cardiovascular disease.”

Other studies have found that breastfeeding is protective against breast-, ovarian- and endometrial cancer and rheumatoid arthritis. (5)

Cell phones and tumors

Researchers in Israel found last year that people who used cell phones heavily experienced a 58% increase in “parotid tumors” – a cancer of the saliva gland near the ear. (6) Another study last year out of Sweden concluded that cell phone users are ten times more likely to develop benign cancers of the ear and brain. (7) Cell phones are particularly dangerous for children because their heads are smaller. The radiation from the phone can cover their entire skull (and brain).

Our advice? Use a headset that keeps your cell phone away from your body.

It’s better to eat grass – if you’re a cow

Cows on a diet of fresh grass produce milk with five times as much conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), an unsaturated fat, than do cows fed processed grains. CLA can protect the heart and help in weight loss. Hannia Campos of the Harvard School of Public Health in Boston and her colleagues found, in a study of 4,000 people, that people with the highest concentrations of CLA – the top fifth among all participants – had a 36% lower risk of heart attack compared to those with the lowest concentrations.
Behind every successful man is his woman. Behind the fall of a successful man is usually another woman.

A clear conscience is usually the sign of a bad memory.

Everything I need to know about life, I learned from Noah’s Ark:

One: Don’t miss the boat.
Two: Remember that we are all in the same boat.
Three: Plan ahead. It wasn’t raining when Noah built the ark.
Four: Stay fit. When you’re 600 years old, someone may ask you to do something really big.
Five: Don’t listen to critics; just get on with the job that needs to be done.
Six: Build your future on high ground.
Seven: For safety’s sake, travel in pairs.
Eight: Speed isn’t always an advantage. The snails were on board with the cheetahs.
Nine: When you’re stressed, float a while.
Ten: Remember, the ark was built by amateurs; the Titanic by professionals.
